Lulu is a website that allows you to very easily publish a book. They allow you to upload for example a finished PDF file to their website, design a cover (or upload your own) and then put your book up for sale on their website. If you live in the US you can also buy a ISBN number very easily, which makes your book easier to retail with other vendors. I am in the UK, so had to go along without an ISBN number until I can afford or justify one. My experience with Lulu so far has been pretty good, with only a couple of problems. Lulu claims to allow you to publish books that you have wrote, whether you just want one copy for yourself, or if you want to start selling your own stories through the internet. Their site seems professional, with a choice of book types available, ranging from paperback to hardback, with or without dust jackets, colour printing, black and white, basically everything you could think of. Lulu is utterly appalling. They withdrew my novel with no warning twice, have held my distribution up for over two months, claiming the isbn has been changed for no apparent reason without telling me, and have changed the copyright without informing me from 2005 to 2008.

They are utterly disgusting, and if you are professional, thorough and talented, you will be wasting your time with them. They are a bunch of community amateurs who block genuine talent. Avoid them like the plague, and look at other alternatives, such as 'Create space'.

My experience with them has been a total nightmare.

Since the early 1970’s I have been writing poetry and have been fortunate enough to have had a few published. I have also had the honour of publishing a few here and getting an extremely positive feedback. I have written things for as long as I can remember – stories, articles, poetry, half-novels, etc. but have found the whole area of publishing at best daunting and at worst soul-destroying.
