I must admit that Lycos had pretty much fallen off my radar for quite some time. I remembered it being one of the big players in the early days of the Internet. STAY WELL CLEAR OF SLY-COST LYCOS!!! I have been with Lycos Webcentre for over 4 years now. You may think that I have stayed with them that long because they provide a good service… WRONG! This is a relatively new addition to Lycos and is still fairly early in its infancy. The basic concept is that anyone can pose a question on just about anything to which members will attempt to answer. The questioner will then consider all the answers given and rate them according to their value of worth. In return the answerer will be reward with IQ points and credits. After running a free site on Tripod, and being very pleased with the service, I eventually reached the point where I needed some additional web space and bandwidth along with a domain name. Unfortunately Tripod didn't offer a suitablle package so I switched to Lycos UK. They weren't the cheapest but I wanted a reliable, long-standing company and Lycos seemed to fit the bill perfectly. Where do I start with probably the most advertised of all the web portal, search engines of them all. This is quite hard as this website offers you so many different services it is nearly unbelievable! (well probably not unbelievable, just vast!).
