Advantages: Informative, Interesting, Fun
Disadvantages: None - but don't forget it's an advertisement!
I recently came across this website after having entered a competition on the sony website (www.sony.co.uk). I was really impressed with it, so have decided to share it with all you dooyoo-ers who may be interested!
The actual address for the MiniDisc Island website is www.minidiscisland.com/minidisc_island.html.
The first page you get to when you visit the MiniDisc Island site shows an aeroplane flying over land with an Immigration Landing Card by its side. The landing card gives instructions as to what you will do once you land. It begins...
* On arrival in MiniDisc Island, you will firstly be asked to specify your gender.
* You will then be taken directly to the apartment, from where you will be free to navigate your way around the different areas of the island by using the right-hand menus.
(There is more on the landing card, but I'll let you read that when you visit!)
On the right-hand side of the first page is the navigation bar. Whilst you are still on the first page there is not much you can do with this other than turn off the music (though the music is actually quite relaxing), or change the background colour.
*Proceed to Land*
After the first page you click on 'proceed to land' are taken to the airport. You are then asked to select whether you are a 'boy or girl' - this is because whilst you are on the island you take on the appearance of a little cartoon type person. You then get in your taxi and are driven to your apartment.
*Your apartment*
Obviously being a Sony site, your apartment is kitted out in Sony equipment. You can view information on the Sony PC Link (a piece of equipment that allows you to copy music files from your PC to MiniDisc really quickly and easily - they cost approx. £29.99).
*Exploring the Island*
Having looked around your apartment it's time to explore the island. This is where the navigation bar on the right-hand side comes in.
You can choose to:
* Go to my apartment
* Go for a drive
* Go to the beach
* Go to a bar
* Go to the airport (leave the island)
Whatever you chose to do through the option bars you are given information about Sony MiniDisc products - for example, if you go for a drive you can find out about the in-car MiniDisc stereo etc.
Although this site is essentially there to advertise Sony MiniDisc products, I found it very useful and informative, whilst at the same time being fun! The graphics are excellent and there is plenty of different background music to chose from. If you are thinking of purchasing any MiniDisc equipment I would recommend visiting this site first to get some information!
There aren't many companies that go to the effort of advertising their products in this way, which is part of the reason I wanted to write an opinion on the site on dooyoo.
I'm sure that this opinion probably isn't useful to everyone, but as one of the aims of dooyoo is to help people make informed choices about purchases etc then I think this opinion is relevant and hopefully of use to some people!
