Advantages: Community and hard work of Martin Lewis.

Disadvantages: Some problems in community sometimes.

moneysavingexpert.com has got to be one of the most popular websites in the UK now.

It was started by Martin Lewis, who regularly appears on tv but also runs the site, posts on the boards (sometimes) and ensures that consumers, people like you and me, get the best deals and don't get short changed so to speak, by companies!

The site's motto is 'consumer revenge' but that gives it a mean feel to it. There is nothing mean about this site at all.

The site has two main sections. One has guides written by Martin, and updates. The other is the Forums. These are where people post to ask questions and where there are usually very nice and knowledgeable people willing to help. I have posted here a few times asking for help and have always had very kind replies. I have also helped out other people and they were very appreciative. The site has a community feel to it (there is even a Moneysavers Arms, an online pub) which I think is one of the best things about it. The other members are quick to welcome new members in to the community.

I have noticed some problems with arguments about Board Guides removing posts. You have to be careful posting some things. If the Board Guides deem something you have posted to be spam, they will remove it. Some people claim that waht they are posting is genuine after it has been removed, and they usually get allowed to have it on the site. However it is important to make up your own mind when you read something, and be careful if it sounds too good to be true.

I have recently subscribed to the email service. Martin Lewis sends an email every week with the latest news for moneysavers. This can include discounts on products, for example 2for1s at food retailers, precedent cases in court for those reclaiming charges, for example from banks, and loopholes so that Sky Plus, for example, can be got for the same price as Sky (check this weeks email). As you can see, there are some great deals.

I think that the email service is absolutely brilliant. If I went through everything in there I would save a fortune. I just look at the bits most relevant to me, and tr to save some money and treat myself and my family once in a while if a special offer in a restaurant comes up, for example. I heard that two million people are subscribed to the email now.

This is a great site that can help you save money, but you have to do the work to take advantage of those offers.

Summary: Take a look!
