Advantages: Vast source of deals and tips

Disadvantages: Warning this website is addictive

As a source for consumer advice and money saving tips, the MoneySavingExpert is tops. The trick, if trick is the right term, is on how you use the website and all the information it contains. Lots and lots of useful information is made available on the website, in fact, it is absolutely overflowing with info! Such is the sheer volume that it can be quite daunting for the newcomer; I have used the site for a number of years now and I still feel I have hardly scratched the surface!

There are two main sources of information; one being the main editorial of the site made up of guides created by the master money saver himself, Martin Lewis; he of TV and radio consumer program fame. When you first open the website you will see a number of "tabs" across the top of the page, the subject matter is clearly labelled with things like Cards/Loans, Shopping, Banking, Mortgages and, at the end of the row, a blue bubble labelled Forum, but more of that later. For a start off its not a site to go into to read the information just for the sake of it, use it a place to research the best deals as and when it becomes relevant to your needs. Down the left hand side of the page there are various "quick links" to some of the most popular articles leading you ways to save money, get the best deals or reclaim money from councils or banks.

As already mentioned there is a Forum in which members can express their views or post freebies, competitions and bang up to date tips or where the best deals are on that day. There is no requirement for you the visitor to register you are free to browse and use the website and all its helpful material. I have registered for the very good reason that you can fully participate in the community both gleaning and giving information through my activity in this forum. I have picked up many great bargains through MoneySaverExpert.

It's a case of learning as you go or, maybe, arming yourself with the ammo to attack some supplier to get the best price. Learn how to haggle, use one supplier's quote against another to ultimately drive the price down. Why not become a tart? A card tart where you use the zero percent deals to get virtually interest free loans. Want to make some extra money? Well, you can there's a "boost your income" section in the forum. You'll find out how other members earn money through surveys, mystery shopping and some other activities online.

Be reassured your details are not passed to any outside agencies; in other words you are not going to be Spammed, in fact you will find guidance on how to avoid spammers or the material they generate. Do use the third party links on Martin's site as the site is independent so relies on your using these links to fund it.

My advice is to go to this website to research, use the guidance and save!!!

Summary: Research, use and save
