Money Saving Expert

I became aware of the money saving expert about four years ago. One of the guys I worked with ran a premium bond syndicate where we all invested in bonds instead of the lottery. The same person pointed me towards money saving expert because it has a premium bond calculator. I found it a useful and interesting site and decided to sign up for the regular emails

What is money saving expert?

Money saving expert is a website run by Martin Lewis and probably some of his colleagues. It has loads of information on great deals, offers and ways and means to save money. It also has a good forum area where members can read other peoples experiences and get any help or advice that they might require. In this section there is also a link to freebies, competitions and a whole host of other information.

My opinion

My initial opinion was that this site seems a bit cluttered will too much information. The emails I got from the site which come about once a month also gave me the impression of loads of information and in the early days I pretty much deleted the message straight away.

Over the past year or so with the onslaught of the credit crunch and all of the negative news I have decided to make a concerted effort to get debt free. I only really started putting all my efforts into this about 2-3 months ago and so far ive cleared about 25% of my debt so fingers crossed Ill be free of it by mid 2010.

I will be honest sticking to a tight budget is very hard but I have found money saving expert to be a brilliant resource in helping me achieve my goals. For one it recommended doo yoo to me as a means to make an extra few pennies (£156 so far).

It's also found me very cheap flights by using the budget flight checker found me a better savings account, found me a better rate for my credit card debt for the life of the debt amongst others.

Recently and through the site I have had a go at getting freebies. So far I have received aftershave, a host of skin products, a spoon, a measuring tape and tea bags. I have also tried a bit of comping and have been lucky enough to win a book so far.

The site also is a great resource for vouchers as well and just last week the girlfriend and I enjoyed two pizzas in a restaurant for £10. As well as this we have a night away planned next week where we got a hotel and breakfast for £35.

All in all it's a great resource and if you have not already tried it I would recommend that you try it out soon.
