Disadvantages: The forum does offer some snake oil sellers, not everything will be of interest

I found this site after a general search on google in which I was looking for advice on savings. Money saving expert is run by a guy called Martin Lewis who has recently had a television slot on Channel 5 where he has provided advice on all sorts of money saving tips.

As soon as you reach the website you are presented with an extensive list of alerts. The alerts range from current but limited cash back offers, discounts currently available at shops and discount codes. There seem to be new alerts on an almost daily basis some of which could definitely be of use to someone, others are for fairly nominal savings.

The site also has has featured which explain in laymans terms which are the best savings rates out currently and why, advice on balance transfers, who the best providers of this service currently are and many more similar features. Thankfully though, they are not trying to lure you into a bad deal as they discuss the pitfalls and the types of not so ethical practices which are being conducted by the financial institutions.

To provide the website with a sense of interaction, a forum is also present. This is an excellent idea at least in some respects because the forum covers an extensive range of issues. For instance I went on there with the intention of seeking some advice on how to increase my income and was surprisingly not met with the usual money out of thin air tricks. Instead I was given some sound, reasoned, rational advice which included writing reviews for dooyoo!. Of course by the very nature of a fairly loosely regulated forum, you will of course come across some spammers and those presenting you with a snake oil product but this goes hand in hand with having thousands of users.

You do not need to register with the site in order to browse the website and the forum but obviously you will need to in order to contribute your posts to the forum.

This site certainly is not selling gold but it never claims to. Instead what we have here is an invaluable resource tool which provides a huge range of information on everything financial. Or at least everything financial which potentially save you some money.
