Advantages: sit back and wait for the phone to ring (with some asshole on the other end)
Disadvantages: too many to mention - apart from time wasting !!
I've signed up to monster and i must admit i was rather 'surprised' at getting a response 24 hours later. Wow! I thought, i was looking for customer services vacancies and made it quite clear what salary i was looking for. i got a call, guy said his name (probably false) said he was working for a 'National Company', not much to go on is it? That he saw the CV and asked a bit more about salaries and other bits n bobs. (This was just before last bank holiday) guy said that they were looking for people with management experience, basically I was being buttered up for the big 'ko', that I needed a car (FOR CUSTOMER SERVICES??) and that the interview was 40 miles away from here and to attend the M***iott Hotel in Northampton, then the BOMBSHELL, the salary was (and get this for a gem) 10k basic with 'OTE of 25k - i smelt a rat and deduced that this was a pile of rat droppings, probably selling domestic utility contracts (hence customer service orientated and the need for a car) or it was the legendary Kirby Vacuum cleaners that the Brylcreem slick assholes try and get people to buy at a grand a go (been there on that one many years ago, so beware of 'Sales Delivery' jobs with a free phone number, its free for a reason - as you're the next sucker!).
This bloke was evidently a sales manager recruiting and the fact that he plainly would not give any further details out over the phone nailed it for me, besides the fact I wouldn't get out of BED for a piss poor 10k a year let alone travel across country for it !!! I was a little pissed off to be honest as this wassock obviously thinks that jobseekers must all be 'desperados' who'll take any McJob (he used that phrase too - cheeky bastard!) If I want a poorly paid job i'll go work for ASDA (spit) or McDonalds.
The next one - to cut a long story short was a call from Hays Contact Centre Recruitment (i sent them a CV via email in January and heard jack shit back ... btw) again, usual buttering up bullshit, you know, get 'em onside, sell them the job, talk the talk and walk the walk .. asked if I was 'flexible' replied yes and said i'd mentioned it in the CV. Said that the salary was 'less than what you are looking for' but 'they have an on-site gym and a nice place to work', so that makes it ok to undersell myself does it (twa*)?
Then not one or two but THREE whammies, one after the other, firstly that there were no less than FOUR rotating shifts, so you wouldn't know your arse from your elbow. Plus one of the shifts was late nights but no premium for unsociable hours (this just gets BETTER) and then .. you're working three out of four weekends and for this we'll offer you ... (drum roll please) 12k a year ...
Oh and by the way we want you to come see us TODAY and go for an induction this coming Thursday (read: holiday period coming up so its asses on seats time). I'd switched off by now on the basis of a) the fact that in january I never got a response - now I get one, so the bastards are too idle to check their email inbox but can spend time surfing the frigging net at work on monster, as monster does all the work so the lazy bastard recruiter doesn't have to 'work' (cough) b) four rotating shifts is nothing short of a piss-take and c) the nail in the coffin was the three weekends bit, no life then eh??
This remarkable place - TUI (holidays) at Westwood Business Park Coventry, what a shit-hole that must be to work at, and as for Hays? - well unprintable, i explained that i couldn't drop' everything to suit them and this dick faced moron then had the gall and audacity to ask me if I was an 'active job seeker' YES PAL, but no bloody MONKEY that works for peanuts, try Whipsnade Zoo, plenty of the buggers there my friend.
SO on balance monster is shit, as it cannot root out the fly-by-nights and chancers out there looking for easy targets, and i've had to put an extra page on BEFORE they even get to my CV to lay down some laws on what I will and will not consider as it appears recruitment agencies see all job seekers as 'fair game' andf in all honesty to see someone's CV with a defined salary and then have the brazen balls to try and knock 'em down a few grand is an insult to any working man or woman.
I've left my CV on but i screen my calls now, too many assholes trying it on .. unimpressed and I agree that one of the posting comments for technical you're probably ok, but i've read that most online IT recruiters rip temps off so bad that the industry is so untrustworthy i.e. temp to agency. New laws are needed and SOON.
Kirby Vacuum cleaner anyone??????!! lol :)
Summary: piss poor, good idea but unregulated and like ebay - full of bastard crooks !!

- 13/05/07 :) i'll tone the language down then for the Mary Whitehouse brigade out there ... I HATE eclipse computers of Coventry as they're the most crooked bunch of conmen that ever descended from the planet 'ripoff'. A website full of lies, non existent stock, zero return policy and the most blatantly arrogant neanderthal sales team you can imagine. I could go on but we'd all fall asleep .. zzzzz :) |

Hi mate. Thanks for the rating on my Monster Review. Sorry I can't rate your review in the same generous manner. I would have rated it as Very Helpful but the bad language meant I couldn't in all honest rate higher.
I do sympathise with you though. Those 4ssholes at monster do bring the worst out in people :)
Regarding the other comments below. They are just trying to be helpful. Don't take it personally. You sound as if you have a lot to say on many subjects and getting yourself wound up and writing a review in this style will simply make people rate you low and the lower the rating on your review the less likely it is to be read by the people who NEED to read it so that they don't make the same mistakes we both have.
Why do you hate eclipses by the way ? or are you referring to the company :) |
