WHAT IS IT?
------------------------------------------------- ------------------------
Mopay is a website where you can sell your mobile phone for cash or M&S vouchers.
HOW DO I USE IT?
------------------------------------------------- ------------------------
It is a very simple website to use. In the top left-hand corner of the site you can type in the model of your phone, for example k800. If the site finds an exact match, then an image of your phone will appear on the screen and you just need to click on it. A smaller window will appear with the following information:
* How much your phone is worth in CASH if it is working
* How much your phone is worth in CASH if it is NOT working
* How much your phone is worth in M&S vouchers if it is working
* How much your phone is worth in M&S vouchers if it is NOT working
If you are happy with these offers then you just click on 'Add to Basket' and that phone is put into your basket. You can then select another phone for another quote or go straight to the next stage.
If you're not sure of the model of your phone, then you can search through a list of manufacturers. Once you have selected your manufacturer then a grid of pictures of different mobiles appears so you should be able to determine which phone model you have from these pictures. If you're really unsure then you can usually find the model number underneath the battery in your phone.
Once you have selected all the phones you want to sell, the next thing you need to do is enter the IMEI number. There are clear instructions on how to find your IMEI in the very useful FAQ section of the site, which covers the following:
- General Questions
- Postal Questions
- Payment Questions
- Terminology
You also need to enter the grade of your phone using one of the following categories:
* Working - you get the full price
* Non-Working - you get a reduced price
* BER (Beyond Economical Repair) - worth zero value
* Grade my phone - if after reading the Grading Info in FAQ you're still unsure, then you can go through this handy checklist to grade your phone.
You will see how much your phone/s are worth in both cash and M&S vouchers value. You can choose to donate a percentage to charity, either Crisis or the WWF (that's pandas and not wrestlers!). Once you have ticked the box that confirms you have read their Terms and Conditions, then you can select whether you want to be paid in cash or vouchers.
You then need to fill out your contact details and then you will be sent an email which confirms your order and has instructions on what to do with your phone.
WHAT DO I NEED TO SEND TO MOPAY?
------------------------------------------------- ------------------------
You just send the handset and the battery, they don't need you to send the sim card or the charger.
HOW DO I SEND THEM MY PHONE?
------------------------------------------------- ------------------------
You post your handset(s) to them in a jiffy envelope using their freepost address which is: FREEPOST, MOPAY.
You need to write your order reference number on the reverse of the envelope and include a copy of your order with the handset(s).
If you are sending them handset(s) that are worth a lot of money then they recommend you use an insured postal method and send them to their full address which is in the FAQ section.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
------------------------------------------------- ------------------------
The FREEPOST service is posted second class and they say that typically handsets take 5-10 working days to reach their warehouse.
They claim that as soon as your phone reaches their warehouse they will test and process your phone and send out payment within 7 days. If you selected cash then you will receive a cheque and if you selected M&S vouchers then you will receive these 2-3 days later.
If you feel the process is taking too long, then you can email them with your order number (contact@mopay.co.uk) and they will endeavor to answer your query within 24 hours.
IS THE SERVICE ANY GOOD?
------------------------------------------------- ------------------------
I sent them my phone on the 17th January 2009 and I still hadn't received my M&S vouchers after waiting nearly 1 month. I had to bear in mind that the heavy snowfall could have delayed things quite badly, so I emailed them at 7pm on 12th February to see if they had even received my phone. The following morning at 10am I received an email back, which I think is a very fast response time. The email said:
"Good morning. We have received and tested your order. We asked our fulfillment company to send out all vouchers yesterday (12th February). You should receive these within the next 3-4 working days. If you have not received them by next Wednesday then please get back to us as soon as possible.
We apologise for the inconvenience that this delay has caused".
I finally received my vouchers on 17th February, which was my birthday so that was a nice envelope to open in addition to all the birthday cards I'd received!
WHY DID I CHOOSE MOPAY?
------------------------------------------------- ------------------------
There are lots of websites that you can sell your mobile to and I chose Mopay because they offered the highest price for my working phone (Sony Ericsson K700/K700i) when I checked using a comparison site (www.mobilephonerecycling.co.uk):
* £8.00 www.mopay.co.uk
* £8.00 www.fonebank.com
* £6.00 www.mazumamobile.com
* £4.11 www.envirofone.com
* £4.00 www.mobilephonexchange.co.uk
For a limited time Mopay were giving 20% extra on the value of your phone if you selected M&S vouchers, so I got £10 in vouchers instead of £8 cash.
.
WOULD I USE THEM AGAIN?
------------------------------------------------- ------------------------
If I had another phone just sitting in a drawer and they offered the best price for it then I would definitely use them again. I found the website very easy to use, the postage to send them my phone was free and I liked the option of cash or M&S vouchers. I thought their customer service was very good as the response time was so quick.
Summary: Line your pockets with cash and not landfills with mobiles.

- 11/04/09 I've used envirofone for about 5 phones. I only realised that other sites paid more AFTER I'd traded the phones. Must remember this one. =\ |
