Advantages: Cheaper Prices
Disadvantages: Cheaper products
I was fooled by the prices I admit. I went looking for a good deal but just got a bum one!
I have just bought an allegedly new 'Vauxhall' Astra and whilst the car has (so far) behaved it was hardly the buying experience I had hoped for. All I can say is 'Shoddy salesman and even shoddier after sales staff'. Oh yes they couldn't wait to take my money but seemed reluctant to provide me with the service one would hope for when spending £12k!
I turned up to collect my new car and found that there was no documentation - handbook, warranty book etc with it. Nearly a month later I am still waiting for a handbook (is this legal?)I was virtually told "there is the car - goodbye", without any attempt to familiarise me with the vehicle (this would have been useful there being no handbook). I also had a supposedly top-of the-range alarm system fitted costing £350 which again no-one saw fit to explain its operation and seems
basic at best
I have only just received my warranty booklet which explains that I should have received all of the documentation with the vehicle. I have also now discovered (though yet to query with Motorpoint) that the manufacturers warranty appears to be just 12 months when I was told (and have documentation to prove) that it was 2 years.
All in all I would say if you want a cheap car go there and you won't be disappointed, but if you are buying a new car then don't expect 'new car service'. I would liken the whole buying experience to buying a can of beans, perhaps that's why they call it a supermarket?
Summary: Cheap cars, cheap service, once tried never to return.

- 05/11/09 you cant get a quart out of a pint pot.....in other words, you get what you pay for...and thats a cheap car thats all there is to it. theyre not there to compete with the customer care of franchised dealers nor have they got the profit margin to do so. theyre there to undercut them pure and simple. so stop being so naive.
they stack em high....and sell em cheap. |

- 07/05/06 Really sorry to hear about your experience. It may be worth talking to trading standards or a solicitor to see if you have any grounds for complaint under the sales of goods act.
Am a bit baffled, I thought the warranty on a new Vauxhall was 3 years parts & labour and 6 years anti-perforation.
Good luck. |
