Advantages: Good solid reliable cars, competitively priced garage cars
Disadvantages: Misinformed on car tax had to push to get difference refunded
I bought my car from Motorpoint 2 years ago, I had used their website and others to find the car that I wanted and felt for the car I was after Motorpoint presented the greater variety. After visiting the Derby branch I realised that the cars I wanted to see were in Peterborough and so may the journey there.
I found the car that I wanted - the first thing that Motorpoint will tell you is they do not negotiate on the price - the price you see is the price you pay, but that price does go up straight away by about £200 to cover administrative costs. For me this still made it a competitive garage price for the car so wasn't too bothered - however you need to decide based on your own case needs.
The car I chose had a low carbon emission, and the saleman advised me that this meant the car tax would be £35 a year, the emission rate on their website and on the paperwork aligned and on checking the figure the rate of £35 was confirmed.
The car was transferred to Derby and when I went to collect it I had to go to a local post office to get the car tax myself (a not so easy to find place). When I went to pay I was told the car tax was £115, I queried this - but that was the rate. I did some digging and the rate on the V5 was different to that on the website and the original paperwork. At this point I will say the rate was correct for a 1.6 engine but not for the 1.4 engine version I bought. I spoke to Motorpoint several times in one day and there response was fairly apathetic however I am not one to take these things lying down and they did agree to reimburse the £80 difference as a one off.
As always never take anything your told at face value and do your own digging.
The car has been solid and reliable and I never had any problems with it whatsoever apart from a puncture. From a product quality point of view I would have no hesitation to use them again.
Summary: Good cars - but you check the facts of the car for yourself
