Advantages: price
Disadvantages: questionable practices, service, unpolite
I bought a Fiat Bravo from Motorpoint less that a year ago. I was obviously attracted by the price, which was very competitive. However it seemed that getting information from the salesmen was rather difficult. They did not seem to be willing to make an effort and seemed to believe that the cars "sold themselves". After I collected my car, I was checking the electrics without the engine running, and the battery went flat. After much arguing over the phone, Motorpoint sent me a mechanic to recharge the battery. During the process, it became apparent to me that the battery was not the manufacturer's original but a dodgy replacement. This had been fitted in such a negligent manner that sulfuric acid was spilled all over the battery box area. As soon as I could, I took the car back to Motorpoint requesting a refund or a replacement. They refused, but offered to replace the battery and battery box. I was left with no option but to accept. This experience was a bitter one, as I was later told that the incident would most likely have an impact on the lifespan of the vehicle in the long run, as acid could not be completely removed. Overall Motorpoint employees were unfriendly and often impolite. My impression is that this was company policy as they try to avoid any after-sales activity. It also seemed to be company policy to manipulate those "brand new" cars in a rather careless manner. The replacement battery they fitted in my car came from another of the cars they had for sale.

- 27/11/01 An unfortunate bad experience you had there. Wouldn't go near them with a bargepole with that op. |

- 27/11/01 Is that Motorpoint in Derby ? We looked there about a year ago, and weren't impressed. Eventually bought our Honda from an importer in Leicester (see my Accord Type R op !). Much better than Motorpoint or TradeSales in Slough |
