Advantages: Cheap to keep in contact with others
Disadvantages: Strangers are able to contact you
I have been chatting on msn for years! It is now an important part of my life as it's a fantastic form of keeping in touch with family and friends, and unlike the phone, I don't run up a massive bill!
I have a lot of friends who live several hours away from me, as well as a few family members. For this reason, I'm unable to see them often, and phoning just isn't practical for me, what with cost and time. Being able to chat to them every few nights is really important to me, and means we keep upto date with each others' lives.
The programme also has the feature of being able to use audio; so if you like being able to speak to someone, it's a much cheaper opition than phoning! You can also use a webcam to communicate with others. My friends and I tend to use this feature to check that what we are wearing to go out is suitable!
For younger children, I would recommend adult supervision. It is perfectly possible for random strangers to add your email address to their list of contacts and message you. I have had experiences of people adding me and acting in a very perverted manner. Luckily, there is an opition to block contacts from being able to speak to you. You can later delete this contact.
Overall, I would highly recommend MSN to everyone I know!
Summary: I'd recommend to everyone
