Probably like some other people, I came across musicmagpie.co.uk, as I did with dooyoo, on the moneysavingexpert site. I am already a frequent used of envirofone for selling old old mobiles for cash, and music magpie sounded like a similar sort of business for getting rid of unwanted CD's.

Martin Lewis does point out on his site that music magpie does not give wonderful cash incentives, with many CD's only being offered 30p in return, and in fact, if it is a more up to date CD or classic hit album, you could easily fetch more on the likes of ebay.

However, before we left on holiday, we were busy clearing out and cleaning the house, and we decided that there were quite a few CD's of little personal value, and unlikely to reach any significant value of ebay due to them beign one hit wonders for example, and so we decided to give music magpie a go.

Music magpie offer cash in exchange for not only CD albums (no singles accepted) but also DVD's and games. Another of the main advantages of this site is, like envirofone, postage is free, however you need to provide your own packaging for your discs. Music magpie will however provide courier and packaging if you are exchanging over 100 items. You will also only be allowed to exchange a minimum of 5 items at once, so a good idea when you are doing a clearout and will have a number of cd's/dvd's etc to get rid of.

I found the website extremely easy to use and hasslefree. You simply type in all of the barcode on the reverse of the cd/dvd/game case and music magpie will flag up how much your item is worth. As I said, it isn't usually much, but if you have quite a bit gathered up, it is worth it.

Music magpie do however insist that CD's be in good condition with no more than a few light scratches, they must be in the original casing, and they obviously cannot be copies. There are further rules and regulations on the FAQ's section of the website.

Once I had been offered prices for my CD's and went through with the exchange and was informed that the postafe stickers and welcome pack would arrive within a few days. About a week later it arrived, and I posted it off with the free postage sticker that they had issued. The postage covers up to 20kg of items.

After I had went through with the order, I stumbled upon a rather negative review of music magpie on a review site and was quite concerned about receiving payment. However, when we returned from our holiday, a nice cheque was arriving for me with the amount originally specified. Music magpie reserve the right to deduct payment for damage to items, however in my case this did not happen.

Overall, I was extremely impressed with music magpie. Yes, they do not offer very much for a CD, and yes it would be better to sell them on ebay if they are in any well modern or from a decent artist, however if like us, you are simply clearing out some rather awful CD's that you would rather no one even knew you owned in the first place, then it is ideal, just to make a few pounds. I though they were reasonably efficient in sending the welcome pack and the payment, in fact, faster than I have found envirofone to be, so I was pleased with the service offered.

I would highly recommend this website, and I certainly had a very positive experience with them and one I hope to repeat in the future.
