You can call any land line number for free in the UK (aswell as France, Switzerland and Netherland)..

And sign up with them (for free) and call any number from that site.. Usually you see these kind of sites, but they only let you call USA numbers.. but heres one that will let you call the UK from your PC..

I have tried this site myself and it definitely works, although you don't always get through at the first attempt.. but hey, keep trying as it's FREE.

There doesn't seem to be a limit on to how long a call can be, the quality is fair.. Although when a friend called France (you can France too aswell a few other countries), there seemed to be a slight delay.

If you have free access to the Net, then the call is completely free..

You do need to have Microsoft Netmeeting installed (which is also freely available from the web)..

Obviously you also need to have a sound card installed (preferebly one which is Full Duplex. If it's half Duplex, then it's a case of having to say 'Over' after each sentence cos you can't talk and listen at the same time with a half duplex sound card).

It's a good way for your relatives and friends, who live abroad, to call you for free..

Definitely worth giving this a try.
