Advantages: If you're very cautious, no readon you can't earn some cash
Disadvantages: Doesn't let you refine searches without blcoking the whole days
Myhpf (short for My Homepage Friends) is a version of google and yahoo in which you search for items in a engine aiming to get to a final desired outcome, except this time you get paid for searching, £20 in fact is the payout, most people can earn this in 2 months, each search is on average around 2p, getting paid for something that you already do on a daily basis, what can be easier surely?
Wrong, I had heard mixed reviews about Myhpf, especially about actually getting paid taking months and months, unfortunatly I didn't even get that far with it, since they kicked me off the site for the sole purpose it was designed for, searching things!
It's a search engine that is powered by Yahoo, i'm unsure whether it uses the Yahoo technology or whether it's just affiliated but the results it bought up were not any good, compared to google and yahoo themselves. The results also weren't displayed very well, for example if you searched for a specific article or a section of a website the address coming up would just be the main site address.
For example, searcing BBC football, on this search engine would just display www.bbc.co.uk as it's web address, the title link itself did however take you to the correct place, although without knowing the URL you are clicking on it's difficult to estimate how reliable and close the match is.
The main problem I had though was that it was an extremley harsh system, fair enough for the first few times (before I read the t&c's) I did try and abuse the system, searching nonsense to try and earn money, for which the days searches were cancelled, which was fair enough.
However, over the week that I actually used this site a few times my days searches were cancelled purely because of spelling mistakes and trying to refine searches (eg, mispelling grren day doesn't offer any results), for this they also cancelled my searches and didn't get back to me with a response to my e-mail complaint.
After a while they cancelled my account with them for apparently abusing the system, for trying to search, I would have though me finding out their downsides (not displaying results with mispellings) would be useful to them, apparently not and they decided I wasn't using it correctly (by searching of course).
Overall I have heard bad things about them, I was looking forward to getting paid by them to see how well they did pay, I didn't even get that far since they blocked me from doing anymore searches.
Which is ironic really, since this is probably the only search engine that doesn't let you search things...
Summary: Avoid

- 23/06/09 I've been paid once from them but I they don't seem to feel like paying me again! I keep asking them to give me my money and they "pass my details" onto the right dept but I've been waiting a couple of months and nothing.. I guess at least I got my first £20 for nothing. I agree with you though, it sucks as a search engine. For a while they were using Google though, the good old days! |
