Advantages: something for nothing
Disadvantages: can take a while for the points to add up
MyPoints is another online reward site just like Ipoints or WebRewards (although, WebRewards will be closing down at the end of July 2001). You earn points for visiting web sites, shopping with retailers’ partners, read and respond to MyPoints e-mails and also for taking surveys. I joined MyPoints back in September last year, and since then, this reward site has got bettererer and bettererer! • Navigation and Loading The log-in/sign-up page loads very quickly and without too much fuss, it also gives you a good idea what the rest of the site has in store. It also boasts three reliability seals (of which two are current). Reading the ‘Privacy Promise’ is quite reassuring, with their address and phone number for all to see (I’ve not had to contact them any other way but e-mail, so I haven’t actually checked that this is kosher). Once you have signed in (it remembers your details, so you’ll have to enable cookies), the index comes up on your screen on the left hand side of the screen, they are:- Earn Points Spend Points Points Balance Member Care Privacy Policy Company With each category, there are lots of sub-categories, most of which are self explanatory, so I won’t go into detail here. However, if your partner or housemates want to join MyPoints, I would suggest that you log out every time you visit. When you first join, MyPoints will give you 150 points immediately, as you only need 750 to get a £5.00 voucher you may think that you’ll earn enough points quite quickly, be warned, this is not a get rich quick reward site! You can earn 100 points for every friend you introduce, but most people that I know online are already members. (Remember that you can invite your partner/housemates as well!) • Getting Points On average, I have received 100 points a month without buying anything online, so as my title suggests, slowly but surely! When y
ou do buy something via their site, make sure you keep a eye out on the total, as it can take up to 2 weeks for points to be added. I think this is rather smelly as quite a few times I’ve forgotten that I’ve bought things via MyPoints only to be reminded somewhat later (I would suggest that you keep the receipt e-mail as well, just in case). I visit them everyday, and quite often they have a clickable link and an e-mail for the same web-site, you can actually earn from both, so don’t forget to check, it only takes a few minutes! Some websites (like Superdrug) allow you to visit once a month to earn 10 points, but most are once a YEAR – I know, that’s a long time, but loads of new advertisers are coming onto the site every month. • Spending Points Spending points is really easy as well; you receive vouchers (I’m saving Comet vouchers) for a multitude of shops from Marks & Spencer to Halfords and Mothercare to the Virgin Cosmetics Co. You can even choose to give your points to charriddee (or charity) but at the moment there is only ‘Breakthrough Breast Cancer’ on the site at the moment (you could e-mail them to add the charity of your choice of course). • Receiving Rewards (or vouchers) and Customer Services It took about 3 days after requesting for my vouchers to come through the door, so this is relatively quick (Why does it take more than a week for Ipoints vouchers?). They are also really nice if you have to e-mail the customer services department (I had a problem a few weeks ago when they added over 2000 points and I knew they weren’t for me – they took them out but left 50 as a ‘goodwill gesture’!). • Overall Worth joining even if you don’t buy anything over the net (you’re missing out on loads of bargains if you don’t).

- 01/08/01 I just wish they'd mark up the ads you've already clicked on, as I always seem to get "you've already had this reward", making me reluctant to sit there clicking on all of them just to get 10 measly points from the whole lot! |

- 13/07/01 I have just got my first £5 voucher after being a member for God know's how long. Still not bad when you consider I do nothing but click on the links in the emails they send. |

- 11/07/01 I joined this one ages ago but I keep forgetting to go back to it, it was in my comp phase when I joined everything and anything LOL - got an e-mail account that gets hundreds of junk mail every week to prove it too! Might go back I didn't realise the min payout was so low. |
