Advantages: A wealth of information, advice, tips, bargains, chat and so much more ...

Disadvantages: Very addictive but SO very worth it!

As a stay at home mum of 3, I have found netmums to not only be a fantastic resource for ideas of things to do with the kids AND for getting advice / tips / sharing ideas on everything and anything to do with kids but it also has SO MUCH MORE.....

I have found the 'LOCAL BOARDS' section of particular use and therefore have based my review on this section.

It includes 4 sub sections:

1. The NOTICEBOARD
Find out and post messages about anything and everything that may be happening in the local area. Want advice as to the best local children's entertainer or where to get ballet classes for a 3 yr old? Ask on this noticeboard and you will get other members sending you recommendations and giving you the answers you need, without you having to spend hours trawling the internet / yellow pages trying to figure it out yourself. Just what every busy mum needs I think.
Messages also get posted on here about local events etc. so it is a really good way of finding interesting things to do with the family, at the drop of a hat!!

2. HOUSEHOLD HELP
Need a plumber/builder/mechanic etc but no clue who to trust, where to find a good one, where to get one who comes with recommendations? Look no further than the household help section. This section is full of recommendations from other mums, of tradesman that they have used and been impressed with. What a fantastic resource and it saves such a lot of time and worry than just picking someone from the yellow pages, with no way of knowing if they are going to be great or cause you a major headache!!

3. NEARLY NEW
This is like a local freeads I suppose - so loads of fab bargains to be had, without having to travel too far to get them.
This section includes a FREE section - where people literally just give away things that they no longer need but don't necessrily want to sell. This can be anything from ball pit balls, to paving slabs, toddler out door toys, clothes, even pushchairs and car seats!! Who wouldn't want to have access to that I ask? Having kids can be such an expensive time and saving money is important to most of us in the current climate so this is such a fab way to do it.
There is also a FOR SALE section with many items, of good quality, at fair prices and again available locally. A great place for not only getting a bargain but also for finding new homes for some of your own unwanted items.
Finally there is a WANTED section - where you can post messages advertising for something you may need/want in the hope that a local member may just so happen to be thinking of parting with the very same item.

4. CHILDCARE
Here you can find local childminders / nurseries with spaces available as well as posting an advert yourself if you need someone to care for your little ones.

I use this site almost every day and to me it is like a secure, welcoming 'mums' club where everyone benefits from sharing what they have and know with other members. If you have any question and just want to throw it out there to get some advice or information, you know that it will be answered, however obscure, because we all realise that been a mum is a tough time and helping each other is what we do.

If you are a mum, dad or carer of any child then if you're not already a member of netmums you don't know what you are missing - there are so many other sections that I could also waffle on about all day but hopefully this review has given you enough of a taster that you will want to join immediately and discover all the other fab resources it offers - for yourself.
