Advantages: easy to do

Disadvantages: not enough surveys , take along time to pay up.

I joined up with New Media just before Christmas last year.

To apply, I had to fill a fairly detailed application form about myself; name, address, job description likes, dislikes hobbies etc. Then I was told that if I didn't hear from them within two weeks that I would not have been accepted. Luckily I was contacted a few days later to say that I was now a panel member and just had to sit back and wait for an invitation by email to complete surveys. I was given a login name and password that I could change when I next logged in to the site if I wanted.

When you log in to the researchers area of the site, you can update your details, read assignment instructions, fill in the assignment online, recommend a friend or family member and read a quick guide on how to go about things in general.

Anyway, I didn't hear from them again until I moved house in February, and by the time we'd got the house sorted out and the computer set up, I found that I'd had an invitation to do a survey but had missed the deadline.

What they do when they have a survey is to send out email invitations to people who they think will meet the criteria and the first 200 -230 to respond in time will get the work. First of all they ask you a few questions of there own to see if you fit the bill and if you respond to that they will send you the full brief on what is required for that particular job. You then have to accept the brief, and get the work done (sometimes it's a survey, sometimes it may be a test purchase for which you will be refunded) and then fill in a form online to say what you think of the service/website and how it compares with others they have chosen on a similar level.

You don't have to accept every job they offer you. I've turned down a couple because they have involved doing a test purchase and now that I've moved out to the country it's not practical for me to even try.
They have still offered me other jobs since then as I'm going to tell you about now.

The next time I was offered a job my PC was playing up and so I didn't get the chance to that one either and so I was giving up hope of ever getting offered another job from them at all when in late May I had another invite. I filled in the short form and a week later I was offered a choice of one out of three jobs. Two were test purchases and so I turned them down, but the last one was of survey of the Tesco wine site. If they accepted my completed review I would be paid £12.50(it was to be a 2 ½ hour job) for my efforts on the last day of July.

So I accepted it and did the job, I had to look at five other wine sites they had suggested so that I could make comparisons and have a good look around in general to see how smoothly it was all running, were there any dead links and so on, it was all very interesting and quite fun, not at all like hard work.

After filling in the questionnaire and submitting it, I just had to wait a few days while my work was checked to see if it had been accepted and they emailed me to say that it had been and the payment would be in my bank account on the last day of July as promised.

The last day of July came and went and I hadn't been paid so I sent them an email to find out where the money was. It took them two weeks to reply to this one in which they apologised and explained that they were having staff problems and promised that the money would soon be in my account. A month went by and still no money so again I mailed them. I know it was only £12.50 but I'd done the job they asked me to do and felt that I should have been paid for it.

A few days later they replied and again promised the money would be in my account 'early' next week. This time it was there, so I had been paid at last, but all the hassle and tussles it took to me to get it had rather t
aken the shine off it.

So I'm unsure at the moment whether I'd accept another job from them or if indeed they will ever offer me one. There are some other opinions on here that speak very highly of them and have had no trouble whatsoever being paid. I may just give them another try.

So to conclude then, I've been with them for around ten months and have earned the princely sum of £12.50! But that being said there has been the opportunity to earn a bit more but I was unable to due to the events described above. As I said before they did have some staffing problems and that was how they got behind with my payment.

Give them a go if you like, I can confirm that you do get paid -eventually!
