I'm known to sometimes to be slightly melodramatic and nhsdirect.nhs.uk does not help! I'm always looking on there to check if I have something when I have the smallest of symptoms and it always comes up with something, usually something I don't have! Therefore, I would not recommend using this if you can be a slight hypochondriac. One time ... Read the complete review

I popped into my Doctor’s surgery last week to pick up a prescription and while I was waiting I browsed through the masses of literature they had on display. You know the sort of thing ‘How to give up smoking’, ‘How to reduce your blood pressure’, ‘How to stop worrying about all the ailments you’ll never ... Read the complete review

NHS Direct Online (www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk) is, as the name suggests, the online version of the NHS Direct service (a 24 hour nurse-led helpline covering the whole of England and Wales which can be called on 0845 4647). It's recently undergone a bit of a revamp, making it easier to use than ever. Obviously, looking things up on the ... Read the complete review

Most people are interested in health matters and this site makes lots of information, ideas and suggestions available on one website. It is an important step forward as it provides authoritative information that you can trust. (At least as far current NHS policy goes.) When my 6mnth son was running a slight temperature, was off his food and was a little lethargic I decided to give NHS Direct a call. The phone was answered very quickly and politely by a lady who asked briefly what the problem was and took his details- name, age, address, doctor etc. She asked me to hold for a few moments (I was played so pleasant ... I think this is such a great service, since it's been set up I've rung it on several occasions. The first time was when our son fell off the sofa and bumped his head. We were really paranoid that he'd done serious damage, but it was evening and the Doctors surgery was already shut, so we rang NHS Direct. My husband ... Read the complete review

Being a parent is scary enough at the best of times, but when your 8 month old baby is obviously not very well at all, it's even worse. They can't tell you what the problem is or where it hurts, so a lot of the home-diagnosis is down to guess work. We have two daughters, the eldest will be 2 in March and the youngest is 8 months ... This probably won't be the best opinion I have ever written, but I'm so annoyed, I want to share it. I have recently found out I am pregnant. I'm only eight weeks, so it's still very early. Today I started bleeding. Anyone who has ever had this happen to them during a pregnancy knows it is the one of most frightening ... Read the complete review

Can someone please help me out? I thought new labour were going to make the nhs more responsive to local needs, more efficient to divert money that the tories had wasted on managment to patient care and generally modernise the nhs by making access to doctors easier. So a few years ago I rang my GP at night and the calls went directly to ... Read the complete review

Many of us slate the National Health Service, and I must admit I'm one of the many who do. However I do urge anyone to give the new NHS Direct Nurse Advice Line a chance to prove it's worth before it's slated and confined to the waste heap. I can't see the point in this site, what is it supposed to be about. We pay our taxes to fund and maintain the NHS, what are the government doing by setting up this stupid service. Apparently you phone the special phone line, tell the operator your symptoms, and they advise you what to do. Are these people trained doctors, do they ... Read the complete review
