Advantages: Simple to use, Some free pennies, Secure and fast
Disadvantages: Only able to use debit cards at the moment
If you use online auction sites like ebay a lot, then nochex could be a blessing for you, as using it could greatly speed up transaction times. It’s a nice simple way of getting your money to the seller, or collecting money from someone who buys what you are selling. Billed as “emailing money”, all you need is for both people to have a nochex accounts and you to have the email address of the person to email money to. OPENING AN ACCOUNT Easy as pie. Go to the Nochex website, click on “Create an account” and fill in the necessary details, such as email address, name, address, password etc. Once you have completed adding your details, Nochex will send you an email with a URL, which you must click on in order to activate your account. This is to prevent you from signing up other people’s email addresses for your account. Once you have completed this, you can log into your account by visiting the site and entering your email address (which doubles as your username), and password. ADDING A CARD TO YOUR ACCOUNT Once you log into your account for the first time, you are required to add a card to your account, so you can load money into your account, and move money from your account back onto your card. Currently, Nochex only accepts Debit Cards (Delta, Switch and Solo), but they are planning to add credit cards soon. To add a card to your account, simply enter your details like you normally would in an online shop, and Nochex stores this on your account. Naturally, this is all done via a secure server. As an extra security measure, Nochex will deposit a small sum of money in you account, between 1p and 99p. To activate the card, you must enter the value of this deposit from your bank statement. This is a mean to prevent you using other people’s credit cards. Nochex also stores IP addresses when you do this, and will report any abuse of the system to your ISP. ADDING / TAKING MONEY FROM YO
UR ACCOUNT Nochex works like a kind of bank account – you don’t move money from your card to the receiver, you add money from your card to your nochex account, which then is forwarded to the receiver. Loading money into your account costs 99p on top of the money you place in your account, but transferring money once it is in your account costs nothing. If you are likely to make many transactions, it is probably worth your while loading a large amount of money in at once rather than paying in as you need it. Taking money from your account also has a 99p charge, so it’s probably worth waiting until it has built up a little before removing any. MAKING / RECEIVING PAYMENT All you need is the email address of the recipient, click the Make Payment option on your account page, type it in, enter the value you wish to send as well as an optional message (e.g. payment for product x and your address). Once you click send, the money is instantly deducted from your account and placed into theirs. If the recipient doesn’t have a Nochex account, they will receive an email with instructions on how to set an account up. Similarly, if anyone is making a payment to you, as soon as they click submit it will enter your account. If you are waiting for a payment, you can enter their details and a short message, and they will receive a notice that you are expecting payment for an item. PAYMENT FROM YOUR WEBSITE If you have a website, you can download banners and logos in order to receive payment from your website. By entering your own email address in the “Request Payment” section, you can create a link, which will take the user to the nochex site, where they can log in (or register) and easily transfer money straight into your account. If you sell items on your website, it’s a simple and fast way to accept payment without having to go to the trouble of creating an e-commerce site. There are a wide vari
ety of banners of all shapes and sizes; you should find one to integrate with your site without any problem. They even supply the HMTL, so it is just a case of adding this to your website or auction page, it couldn’t be simpler. INTERGRATING A CHECK OUT If you offer many items to your site, you can set up a link to payment via Nochex for each individual item, by configuring a URL with your email address, the cost of the item, descriptions and such. It sounds complicated, but its really quite easy, they provide step by step instructions at https://www.nochex.com/nochex.dll/faq/integrate_ch eckout to help you along. MONTHLY PRIZE A monthly prize of £250 is on offer to anyone signing up to the site or referring a friend to the site. The more friends your refer, the greater your number of entries into the draw and the greater the chance of you winning a prize. YOUR ACCOUNT Once you log in, you are taken to your account page, where you can easily make and request payments, load payment into your account and download money into your bank account, get logos and banners and the information on how to create your own check out. You can also view your transaction history, see what money is in your account, where it has come from, and whom you have requested money from. WEBSITE It’s a rather nasty green colour, but it’s quick and reliable, and requires minimal graphics meaning it downloads very fast, even on a dialup connection. There’s plenty of information on site should you get stuck; there’s links to help on almost all pages you comes across and instructions on how to do everything. It really is simple to pick up. In short, if you use auction sites at all, I would recommend this highly. It allows you to collect or make payment as soon as the auction closes, and the 99p charge is comparable to sending a cheque by registered post, and this 99p cost can be absorbed if
you make a larger payment into your account. I can see it becoming very popular as more and more people start to realise just how addictive online auctions can be! Gets the thumbs up from me, but I’m only giving four stars until it can accept payment from Credit as well as Debit Cards. Definitely worth a look.

- 04/09/01 Excellent opinion! I do ebay so I may look into it - but at the moment, I'm quite happy to wait for a bidder to send me a cheque or postal order - unless they are one of the few people that take the mick - leaving me waiting for a month! |
