When I paid a visit to this web-site, I was expecting to find recipes for all kinds of gourmet food which would probably be considered ‘ bad ‘ for the consumer.
In fact it’s just the opposite.

NutritiouslyGourmet offers only food which is considered ‘ good‘ for you, hence the
‘ nutritiously ‘ part of the title !

The recipes you will find on-site utilise the latest in the world of nutritional knowledge and healthy eating, and the contents of the recipies for complete meals are carefully balanced to provide ‘optimal’ amounts of carbohydrates, fat and protein.

The site is hosted by an American lady, one Jane A. Rubey, M.P.H., R.D who founded the NutritiouslyGourmet, cooking school, in 1991. She holds a master's degree in public health: nutrition (M.P.H.) and is a registered dietitian so you can be sure that she knows a thing or two about... avocado smoothies !

On entering this site you will see that it’s laid out in five neat categories, namely, the Introduction, the Menu’s and Recipies section, the Seasonal produce section and there are also sections for Nutritional basics and Nutritional news.

In the ‘Intro’ section you can find out why menus and diets should ideally be nutritionally balanced.
Menus for food are 'balanced' in terms of nutrition and it’s part in promoting good health.
Optimal dietary balance suggests that total daily calories be distributed accordingly: 20% from fat, 10% from protein and 70%, from carbohydrates being primarily starches.

Paying a visit to the Recipes and Menu’s section will get you loads of healthy recipes and access to the previous archived recipes provided by this very kind lady.

Today’s recipes include Eggplant Parmesan with Rice, Green Beans and Cherry Tomatoes, Non-fat Tomato Herb Dressing and Fruit Tart. In addition, full deta
ils are also given of the optimal dietary balance and the total of calories expected for each recipe, ain’t that brilliant !

If you are very interested in finding out more about dietary balance, then visit the ‘Nutrition Basics’ section where you can read all about why dietary balance is a good idea, and you can also read up on your recommended dietary intakes and allowances, ‘food labels’ and a dietary guide and a very interesting link takes you to the ‘ Food Guide Pyramid ‘ which is a veritable treasure trove of information and definitely - not-to-be-missed !

On visiting the ‘Seasonal Produce‘ section you can find out all about which foods are to be used seasonally, i.e. knowing what is ripe at what time of year is an important part of food preparation and nutrition, and you will get a complete ‘month by month’ calendar detailing which vegetables and fruits to choose and what times of the year it’s best to buy in and use them.

All up, this site is definitely one of the best ‘ healthy food‘ sites I have visited. It’s easy to use and navigate, provides good well informed advice and many links to other good, health food related web-sites.

I bet Jane doesn't know as much about Avocado Smoothies as King auldmac!

And I hope after visiting all these food sites you're serving up GG with all these gastronomic delights.

Bon appetite.
