Online Bookings - Comments & Tips

I have been caught out a couple of times whilst booking airline tickets on the internet. The problem being that I sometimes travel abroad for extended periods and need to take extra luggage. Airlines have different baggage allowances depending where you travel, and I have never found this information when booking online. For example I travel often to Brazil. The BA and Lufthansa allowance is a miserly 20kg whereas American, United, Iberia, Swiss Airlines, Varig offer a generous 2 piece 64kg allowance. When planning for a recent trip to Paris, my husband and I scoured the web for a good deal on flights and opted to fly with Ryanair - £6 each way plus taxes. Planning the Hotel accomodation was the tricky part. When a friend of mine told me he had a spare ticket for the final rugby match in Sydney I thought long and hard for five or six seconds and decided to go over. I have just finished a 3 hour session helping my sister to booka holiday supposedly online! I have visited about 15 site including cheapflights.com, lastminute.com, lateescapes.com etc etc. I have to say that not one of them was what I would call easy to use. First of all there are the forms to fill in all different none good. The problem is because you are talking to computer there is no flexibilty or questions that can be asked. Ok, so this is what I do - no state secret, but the more diligent you are the better deals you can get. First of all decide where you want to go, or if you just want to go anywhere. Then have a rough idea of dates (all pretty easy up till now). Learn which airlines offer flights to your destination or nearby and bookmark all of their sites, as well as the travel aggregators, such as Expedia, Travelocity and eBookers.
