I have been caught out a couple of times whilst booking airline tickets on the internet. The problem being that I sometimes travel abroad for extended periods and need to take extra luggage.
Airlines have different baggage allowances
depending where you travel, and I have never found this information when booking online.
For example I travel often to Brazil.
The BA and Lufthansa allowance is a miserly 20kg whereas American, United, Iberia,
Swiss Airlines, Varig offer a generous 2 piece 64kg allowance.
So unless you carry only a medium bag
make sure you have this information to hand before you book.
You may end up paying a high price in excess
baggage when you arrive to check in and after the events of September 11th airlines
airlines are making up their lost profits
by charging excess weight .
