Courtesy of the lovely folk at the Orange Arrows team. As an avid F1 fan, I know how annoying it is to miss out on the practice news and qualifying progress on race weekend, and I also know how infuriated my friends get when I lock myself away from the world with only the TV to keep me company (not to mention how infuriated my boss wuld get if I skipped work every other Friday!) Well the Orange Arrows team obviously had the same problem, so have started a free (SMS) text messaging service. There are four different services that you can request... 1) General - which gives you occasional updates over the weekend on major news, weather conditions, liklehood of rain and overall results. 2) Practice - which sends four or five real time updates during Friday and Saturday's practice sessions, letting you know how ALL of the drivers are getting on 3) Qualfying - Which is the same as practice but for Saturday's qualifying session 4) Commentary - A commentary message every 10 minutes or so during the race on Sunday giving information on accidents, incidents, lap times, splits and usually the top ten positions. *NB don't request this one if you are going to watch the race - the messages arrive about a minute after Murray has told you and due to the sheer volume can get annoying) Plus the best thing is all this is for free! (Unlike f1 ITV who must be making such little cash from the race-ruining advertising that they have to charge you 30p per message). Also you don't have to worry about the messages clogging you phone up as the clever sytem allows each type to write over iteself (ie commentary messages overwrite the previous commentary messaeg and so on). Just go and sign up on the Orange Arrows website www.orangearrows.com *** Update *** New season, new look site and the option for the SMS updates seems to have disappeared... :( I will keep on searching...;)
