Advantages: Great music, new entertainment
Disadvantages: Still fairly new, but growing
Ore Stone Radio is a fairly new website that offers a form on free online radio. They aim to provide free high quality music for their listeners and a useful way for unsigned bands and artists to get their music heard by the general public. Despite not officially launching until 1st July 2009 Ore Stone claim to have already built up a good following of listeners.
Ore Stone Radio can be found on social networking sites Twitter and Myspace and I have also heard that they have recently teamed up with unsigned music website BandEngine and are due to air music from BandEngine's first promotional compilation album (BETRA Awards).
To listen to Ore Stone radio you can simply just visit the website and click on the link to launch the stand-alone player or you can also listen to it by using the Nokia Radio service which you need to download the application for. Current shows include The Rock Show, The Hip Hop Zone, The Urban / R&B Chill, The Indie Show, The Pop Culture Show, Monster Metal and The Deuce Radio Show.
There is also currently facilities that allow you to record a message which can be aired on the internet based radio station and the ability to request a track. I should also mention that some tracks are rated 18 and may contain explicit lyrics. Unsigned bands can get in contact with Ore Stone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Personally I am all for anyone that is helping to support unsigned music and it's something I've really gotten into lately. Although still relatively new and fairly small, I would love to see this great new internet radio station grow in popularity and really take off.
Summary: A great new source of new music and useful resource for the unsigned
