Advantages: free, promotes recycling, newsletter updates, fast

Disadvantages: You have to pick the item up yourself

Over the years through buying, giving and receiving we all manage to collect a lot of items that we needed at the time only to find that after a few years the novelty has worn off or we just don't have any use for something anymore. The item can be a toy that the kids no longer play with or an old hobby like playing a musical instrument that you just don't have the time for anymore. In this situation, sadly many of us choose to want to get rid of items that are simply collecting dust by dumping them on a street corner or in a skip somewhere. Ultimately the consequence of such actions will only result in the items being taken away to be destroyed or to be put into a large land fill promoting the decline of our environment further more.

This is why when I heard of this new recycling web site, ecyclebin.com, I was anxious to check it out. I felt that I could find it useful because I did have things that were no longer any use to me and if they could be of use to someone else then all the better for it. Plus it was a positive step towards helping to contribute to the welfare of our environment.

*What is ecyclebin all about?*

Well it is a website that has currently been up and running for a few weeks now and is already very successful. Lots of people have registered all over the UK. Registration only takes a couple of minutes and is absolutely free. They only ask you to give a few details like your name, address, telephone number and email address, you also have to assign a log in name for yourself, and this can be anything of your choice provided it is available. That's all that is required and you're away!

*The aim and procedure*

The aim of ecyclebin.com is to encourage free recycling of items so that they can be of use to someone that needs them and can find use for them. It can be any item.

Registered users log on to view what other users have listed to give away. All of the listed items have a small description of what is included, the condition of the item, when the item was purchased etc.

To list an item all you have to do is simply log in as your user name, click on my ecyclebin button and then on list a new item option then just start listing whatever you want to give away, listing an item is also free.

If you have any questions regarding the item then you can easily contact the member by telephone or via the email address they have provided. The only catch is that the first person that commits to the item gets it so you have to be quick. Also all items are pick up only so if you live in London and the item is in Glasgow provided you have no problems in collecting it the item is yours. When you log in though you have the option of searching through items that are available in your area, so it is convenient for you.

As most of the items are free, you get the occasional person asking for a few pounds if the item is of value or brand new and has never been used, no returns are accepted with the majority of items but you can discuss this with the seller before you obtain the item.

*Service provided*

Ecyclebin also keep you updated on a regular basis through emails on new listings that have come up in your area. On the homepage they have a list of the top 5 most wanted and offered items and the price. Within the wanted option people can also list whatever they want, are looking for or require. Any user can contact you if they have the particular item that you are interested in. Someone may be desperately looking for an item and in this case may well be willing to offer a good price for the item.

They also have a forum whereby people can log in and just chat about any topic they want, it can be anything from general recycling queries or world issues, you can get your point of view across.

A feedback and fault reporting link is also provided so if you receive something that is in a terrible state or does not work therefore is no use to anyone then you have a way to report this.

If you are for any reason unhappy by the service and wish to close your account with ecyclebin then all you have to do is contact their admin team by email, provide your username and the secret questions' answer that you gave when registering with them. They only require you to write a few lines about why you no longer wish to use their services and that is it, no hassle whatsoever. You will then shortly receive an email confirming this.

Eyclebin is not just about recycling items, they also provide listings for lift sharing offers, holiday house swapping opportunities and even offers on dog walking to name but a few.

*Conclusion*

I think that this is a great idea, you can help other people get what they really want and you are helping to keep the environment clean. Nothing is required from you accept to occasionally list some of your unwanted stuff, for many of us that won't be a problem! I know I will be using this site quite frequently.

Try out ecyclebin today, you never know you may come across something that is of interest to you. Remember don't dump it - Ecycle it!!

Summary: Ecycle bin allows you to make a change to the environment and is absolutely free.

Sounds like a good site if you're into recyclying, I always think sites like this would be more prosperous if more people used them - they rarely seem to take off in a big way. Sam (Internet Guide)
