Oyster Leisure work like this. You get invided along to attend a presentation on the promise of a free holiday. They make a great spiel about how good there Qualycom product is and for the joining fee is £3995 how you will get cheap holidays for life. They promise specific prices and that these prices will not rise for at least five years. The prices are very good £150 for a couple for a week up to £450 for eight people for a week all in five star accomodation. There is also a yearly fee to remain a member which is currently £69.

They have an internet site to choose holidays from but it is all in dollars and as prices are supposed to be fixed the prices at first confuse somewhat, more about that later. They also have a travel club to help you find holidays that oftern don't appear on the web site whic is quite useful.

The bad news is that none of the promises are written into the contract you sign and if you complain they will simply reply that they are not in the contract.

To date I have recieved the following:

1) No free holiday
2) No holiday in my first year as a member
as nothing I wanted was available two
months prior to my holiday dates
3) This year I was quoted £907 for a
holiday in Wales for eight.

Now £907 is not a bad price but it is over double the £450 I was promised when I forked out almost £4000 in dues.

I urge everyone to give this company a wide berth, but if you still want to do business with them be aware of what you are getting in to.

Update 16-7-01

I have recieved a letter over the week-end to advise me that the Oyster Leisure
have currently been reported to the trading standards regarding thier sales technique. This must be further warning regarding the company.

I have still to recieve my free holiday.

maybe the time has come for BBC wachdog to look at holiday firms like this, looking at commments from site like Dooyoo could be a good place to start.
