If you have never heard of a CPU this is probably not the place to start looking (try howstuffworks). However, if you’d like to know how a laser printer works and find out what postscriptis in the process or you want to know exactly what is going on when you use a digital camera then the descriptions on this site are first-rate. Sometimes the brave new world of IT seems to come with a brave new language that has more in common with Swahili than with that spoken by the Queen. The problem is that that those nice young men and women at the computer hardware shop have a 6th sense for jargon-phobes. Suddenly transformed by the sense of power they throw terminology at you until all you can do is whimper pleadingly ‘so, what should I buy then?’. A great PC tech site is http://www.pctechguide.com. It lots of information about the techical side of computers and there architecture. I would highly recomment this site to students doing hardware related courses. Is has up to date in about CPUs, memory and Motherboards. You will need to be patient when the site is loading as pages are often very long and take minuted to loads up. The site has some good graphics, but could do with some more.
