poetry.comNewest Review: ... Seeing your name in print is quite a nice thing and they play on this a bit by supposedly offering special deals on the final prints. Apart from the entering of competitions the website has a host of goodies which are designed to help the budding poet. Most of the WebPages however have a large area geared to you entering the comps and being sucked into the web of purchasing your published ... more |

==Poetry.com== I don't usually review this sort of thing, but since i had a look, I figured I'd have a go. The first thing I noticed when I looked at this site was the incredibly poor layout, it looks like the idea behind designing the site was to ram as much in as possible. the home page definately didn't make me want to stay there. This very poor design made navigation a very tedious job with lots of miniature font, crammed in hyperlinks that were half covered by advertisments and so called 'poems of the day'. The website itself is huge, with hundreds of poems that have been submitted as well as extra features, it is an average site if ... Read the complete review

The idea of winning some serious money could quite easily tempt you into entering one of the many competitions run by Poetry.com. The competitions are legitimate and it is possible to win the prizes although it appears that your chances are much improved if you live on the other side of the pond. I first got interested in the site due to an e-mail, which was enticing me to enter one of my poems into their $10,000 dollar competitions. I have entered three times now and came 3rd twice unfortunately there are no runner up prizes the 10K if for the winner. There are obviously a great number of entrants so I was actually quite pleased that I was at least in the ... Read the complete review

As we all know, there's no such thing as a free lunch. And don't forget your mother's favourite, 'If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.' So if someone told you that you could win $10,000 for writing a poem, you'd be a little skeptical. And rightly so. Poetry.com is a vanity publishers. There, I've said it. And how do I know? I used to work for a company that operated using the same unscrupulous methods. Poetry.com is a web site run by The International Library of Poetry, a rather impressive sounding backing. The website promotes a range of monthly and annual competitions for aspiring poets offering vast cash prizes. However, Poetry.com's ... Read the complete review

THE USE OF POETRY AS A DEVELOPING AND COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUE TO CONVEY YOUR THOUGHTS AND FFELINGS TO OTHER PEOPLE. THE PHRASE AND RHYME SCHEME IS DETERMINED BY THE WRITER. THE INPUT AND BACKGROUND OF THE POEM DEPENDS ON THE EXPERIENCES OF EACH INDIVIDUAL. THE EMOTIONAL IMPACT OF THE POEM DRAWS THE READER INTO THE WRITER'S MIND AND PUSHES BOTH THE READER AND WRITER TO EXAMINE THE THEME OF THE POEM AS WELL THE RELEVANCY TO EACH PERSON'S LIFE. SOMETIMES IT CAN BE DIFFICULT TO FIND THE RIGHT RHYME SCHEMES AND SEQUENCES OF WORDS TO SET THE MOOD AND TONE OF THE POEM. ONE CAN ALWAYS CONSULT BOOKS OR SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE WORK. SOMETIMES IT CAN ALSO BE ... Read the complete review

Note: The original domain www.poetry.com, which was once a scam site, has been aquired by Lulu Poetry, which is a Publish on Demand site, and is no longer the scam site that the previous owners of the domain were running. This review covers the old site. Recently someone on a newsgroup said that they had been chosen to be a semi-finalist in one of Poetry.com's contests. This is a well known scam, and many people told this person to run as fast as he could the other direction. But then, someone said "Just to be fair: [they hope] one will buy the book, but [do] not require it." This is what I ansered to that. Let me tell you about ... Read the complete review
