Advantages: Reliable, easy to use, free money!
Disadvantages: Some merchants are slow to cough up
I hadn't realised how much you can make with cashback websites, of which Quidco is one, till a few months ago. Now there are several of these sites about, presumably all working on roughly the same principle, but Quidco is the only one I've used - and very good it is too!
How it works: if you want to buy goods or services on the web, instead of going direct to a website, log on to Quidco.com and search the website in its list of merchants. If that website is in there you'll see a summary of the cashback you can get on your purchase (generally £ or % of value) and the terms & conditions. Simply follow the Quidco link to the merchant's website - any purchase you make will be tracked and you get your cashback.
Now nothing's perfect - these are some things you might not like:
- the website you want isn't on Quidco (can't be helped, but there are a lot of sites on there)
- delay in payment: you have to wait to get your cash - this can take months, depending on the individual webiste
- cookies: these are needed to track your purchases, so if you don't want them, you can't use it
Obviously, you need to use common sense - getting lured into purchases you wouldn't obviously make, or using more expensive sites just to get the cashback would defeat the point...
Personally I find the Quidco website clear and easy to navigate and have had no problems with tracking and paying my cash (this can be done via BACS or paypal). Small purchases add up if you make it a habit to go through Quidco, and any big ticket items like hotels, tickets, electronics can get a significant cashback.
All in all a nice little earner.
Summary: An almost effort-free discount on internet purchases
