Advantages: Cashback site which gives you a percentage of your purchases back.
Disadvantages: Can sbe slow to payout sometimes.
I have been a quidco member for just over a year. I was recommended by my sister who is a moneysavingexpert addict!
Basically its a cashback site, there are a few of them out there (Cashback kings, piggypoints, Fat Cheese) but quidco is the only one I use. I dont have to buy anything I wouldnt normally, but the things I do buy offer me cashback of varying percentage of the total transaction.
You need to start off by clearing your cookies so that the visit can be tracked to Quidco. This can be a real pain but it goes a big way to making sure the transaction 'Tracks' - by this I mean that Quidco can make a note of this and add it to your account.
The time it takes from money to change hands in the purchase and you getting it back varies from retailer to retailer, and its normally between 1-3 months. Quidco will tell you on the retailers page what the average is, and I have found this to be pretty accurate
The transaction is 'Tracked' in you account pretty soon in most cases, though it can take upto a month (but this has never happened to me)
There are hundreds of retailers on Quidco - big name brands like Debenhams and Tesco, utilitiy providers that pay you to switch and the same with insurance companies. I have recently done my Christmas shopping and got cashback from M&S where I bought Cards and Wrapping Paper, Tesco where I bought some books and DVD's, toys from ELC and cashback from ordering a 'Santa Letter' for my eldest Son.
I have also earned cashback after booking holidays with Haven, Butlins and Thomson.
They have also started offering 1% cashback on ASDA's grocery orders, I know its only 70p on my usual £70 shop, but every little helps.
So far, in a year I have earnt £550.47, of this I have recieved £490.83, with another £40 or so still to come. The only cashback I have had problems with was Woolworths after they went bust last year - but this is hardly quidco's fault.
For the priveledge, Quidco take £5 a year from me, which comes straight from the cashback I have made. If I dont do any transactions within the year then I dont owe anything.
I feel a bit queasy when I think of all the money I have missed out on before I discovered Quidco, but I am definately going to use it for all my shopping from now on. I have found the service professional and friendly and it does make me think about where I shop. If I need to buy something online I do think 'can I get it through Quidco!'
Payments are made either by Bacs or by Paypal. You can set your minimum cash-out limit so that you wont get paid anything less than that, and instead it will roll over until you have over the required amount.
One thing I do think would help to make the service even better would be the ability to search for products (like you can do on the Airmiles website) rather than just on retailers, as it can be a little bit of a pain to try and think about which shops might sell an item I want, but its only a small grumble.

- 02/11/09 I wonder whether Tesco will be after you for using the phrase "every little helps" in connection with Asda! =;) |
