Raging Search
Raging Search claims to be the premier search site for the web. They are backed and part of AltaVista but lacks all the information that AltaVista has. They are relatively new and in time might be the premier search site for the web.

The part I like about Raging Search is it is simple, easy to use, fairly effective and you can customize the start page to your liking. They are not fancy in design at all, this makes them simple and easy to use and understand.

Customize
Customize a search engine from scratch the way you want it to work for you. If you have never clicked on the link before than you will find a plain blank page with just a place to search from. Then you can click on customize and you are ready to set up your own personal engine.

Once you click on customize it will take you to a layout with five category's to pick from and start your layout.

1. Results - Here are things that you may wish to view or not to view. Add or Remove the following, Highlight Title, Description, Highlight Description, URL, Last Modified Date, Size, Language, Translate, Results from this site only and More like this. You can click on help and get a brief description of what each one will do.

2. Page Layout - First pick out how many results you want per page shown. I you have a slow computer us a smaller number and if you have a fast computer and Internet connection than you can use the larger numbers. Then you select where you wish to have the search box, at the top, at the bottom or at both the top and bottom. Then you can turn on or off the spelling tips, this is nice if you misspell a lot when you write it in the search box. Last you can pick if you wish to view Related Searches at the top bottom or none.

3. Design - Here you pick out the colors that you wish to use for the page, it is simple to pick out, there are twelve selections and each one has three different colors in them. You can also selec
t from three different fonts.

4. Language - Here you can pick to translate or not to translate the laughed of your choice. There are several languages to pick from and the encoding needed for you computer.

5. Advanced Search - Three-search options to pick from, Simple, Advanced and Power. There are several other options to pick, the one that I like the most is the Family Filter, this is set to filter out objectionable material. The objectionable material consists of sexual, violent and or hateful content.

When finished be sure to hit the save button on the bottom and then exit. Now you have set it up the way you wish for it to search for you.

I'm sure in time they will add more options to customize with and you will see other search engines follow in their path to customize the search the way you want it.

My Last Thought
There are a lot of search engines out there and a lot to pick from. Raging Search is a newer one and growing and I will think in time it will be one of the premier sites. Raging Search is not as in-depth as a lot of them, the advantage of this is you don't get as much junk to look at when searching.

This is a great search engine to set up if you wish to filter out the adult and other contents you may not wish your children to find. It is fast in finding what you are looking for and the family filter seems to work pretty well but like anything it is not fail proof. I have tested it for several adult and verbal comments and it has done a great job keeping them out.

I highly recommend this search engine for anyone with children in the house.
