It was my husband who came across this search engine and suggested that I check it out, which I did. I was quite surprised when this site loaded up to find it was called raging.com since it seemed more of a Altavita.com site and raging.com on the side. But, that where my husband informed me was the good thing about the site. As the site clearly states “in their efforts to provide the worlds best search engine they have combined Raging Search with the improved AltaVista Text search”.

The new Text Search provides all of the features of Raging Search, and more:
 Viewable on text-only browsers
 World-class relevancy
 Lightning-fast performance
 News related to your query

So did the raging site that was so highly recommended to me come close to being the best? Or was it just altavista in disguise. Well, it was neither really. It isn’t the best search in the world. First the appearance of the homepage is very poor I am sure I could have done better. No colour just pain text. If we look at google.com that’s simplicity but also attractive but this I am afraid to say is just boring. The site is a poor version of altavista, doesn’t contain any of the extra features that can be found on the Altavista search engine. It’s like having left overs, they never taste as good when first prepared. If you know what I mean…..

The search facility is pretty basic as stated on the site even the advanced search facility isn’t much to shout about. Although, you can customise your search to web sites from a particular date which is the first time I have seen that, something that will help get rid of the old sites and improve the matches.

The matches are quick but aren’t very accurate, the search engine is very poor at searching key words or phrases for that matter. So, it matches one word or two which means you are left with a lot of useful sites. Yo
u can search in a range of languages from Chinese to even Hebrew and many others. But, if the English sites aren’t that good I wouldn’t want to say how they would turn out to be.

Overall I have to say I am very disappointed with this search engine I would go as far to say as this is probably the worst search engine that I have used. I find it hard to understood what aspect my husband liked of it!
