Although now we are left with Reel as a film information and gossip centre, let me take you back to the good old days... Reel was the bestDVD retailing company around, especially to us Brits who have to import R1 DVDs from the US. The prices were always low - 40% off at least - plus there was the added bonus of many special offers ($10 off, etc.). However, their generosity was taken advantage of (not that I'm against this - it's a dog-eat-dog world) by many who created multiple accounts and got $10 off EACH order, for example. Perhaps Reel's best feature was their customer service - any DVD that you were unsatisfied with - arrived late, slightly scratched - was replaced free of charge. Often you would get a replacement and then the 'late' order would arrive a few days later. And in a stroke of genius, you could talk to customer reps via java chat. So, Reel's reign is over. Now amazon.com is king, with their also excellent (though not quite as good) customer service and wide selection. Perhaps the days of DVD special offers are over. I remeber the disbelief when Reel shut suddenly. The king is dead, long live the king...

      Disadvantages

Since the demise of reel.com as a DVD retailer, we are now left with reel.com the movie database, and although it is comprehensive in its coverage, you can’t help feeling it lacks the depth and comprehensiveness that its main rival imdb.com has. It does still offer very frequent updatesd and a valuable resource for alternate information, although all rating seem to be a plug for sales at its partner site www.buy.com which tends to put you off believing its honesty and integrity somewhat. Nevertheless it has a lot of valuable information that may not be found in other places, and the information it gives does tend to be more specific to the DVD itself than the likes of IMDB, so if it's this kind of information you are after, this is the place to go.
