“ A thriving, productive environment that encourages an atmosphere of community, respect, collaboration, and growth for computer graphic artists, 3D & 2D digital artists, animators, photographers and writers of all backgrounds and levels. „
Renderosity.com is a digital arts community where members, both amateur and professional can showcase their work. It covers a variety of styles across every genre of digital art from comics to architectural design. The main sections of the site are listed below and are all available from the easy to navigate menu.
Users of the site can upload their artwork according to the program used. Galleries are available for most of the major 3D applications including Bryce, Maya, Cinema 4D, 3DS-Max and Poser, alongside others such as Photoshop and Photography. The galleries are set out in thumbnail style, linking to a full size version of the picture. There is sometimes graphic content, but this is clearly marked with an advisory thumbnail picture. Other users can comment or rate the work if the artist allows it. Links are provided to the artist's own profile and galleries. Many genres are covered including comics, fantasy, sci-fi and photography. The creator retains copyright to any work posted.
There are forums for each of the applications where users can exchange hints and tips, ask questions and post tutorials. They are very helpful and there is a good sense of community. Moderators enforce the rules so unlike many other forums, there is no "flame wars" or other disrespectful behaviour. As the site caters for everyone from hobbyists to professional artists, a large amount of knowledge is exchanged freely.
In this section, users can sell their own products. These are usually 3D models to use in your application, along with items such as Photoshop brush sets and backgrounds or textures. All major cards can be used as well as PayPal. The creator of the content receives most of the price with a small percentage going to Renderosity for providing the Marketplace. Purchases can be accessed from your account screen and downloaded as a zip file or self-extracting file. Delivery is quick as high bandwidth servers are used for this.
Like the Marketplace but free! Content creators often offer free products which can be anything from free models to additional textures for their own Marketplace models.
You must be a member to access the whole site. Membership is free and you don't have to be a contributor! There are weekly emails you can opt-in to if you wish, giving an overview of news, features and articles. There is no spamming by the site.
