“ A website offering money off vouchers for restaurants. „
Restaurant Vouchers is a site I came across a couple of weeks ago while looking for somewhere to go out for dinner that weekend. Indeed since the recession there seems to have been a noticeable boom in the number of restaurants offering money off coupons and vouchers to entice you to spend your money there. I tend to always stick to the same sites when I'm searching for vouchers but I came across this one through searching on Google for a particular restaurant brand that I particularly wanted to visit. Since then I've used it a couple of times to search on and so decided to share it with you!
The site itself seems to be fairly new as it only began in 2009 meaning it can't have been around for more than eleven months now. There seems to be relatively little information about the actual site or who set it up. The brief text about the site that I did manage to find informed me that they wanted to help people live through a credit crunch despite loving going out, they suggest that bars and restaurants also love it when we go out so they're making it easier for us to afford the experience now. The site is really just a way of accessing the huge range of vouchers from UK restaurants.
The homepage to the site is rather overwhelming and I wasn't sure which section to look at first as there seems to be so much competing for your attention. The background is white thankfully, otherwise I feel I'd have took one look at this site and moved on! There is a small menu running along the top of the page and the website title is displayed underneath this on the left hand side. Below this you'll find numerous lists of bar and restaurant offers all competing for your viewing, there doesn't appear to be any immediate control or order to the site which was a little off putting.
The homepage seems to be split into three blocks in a sense, the left hand thin block contains a list of options for you to click on while the large central block actually features lists of bars and restaurants along with their current offer and the right hand column seems to be mainly filled with advertising information from, I presume, the site's sponsors. Overall I wouldn't really rate the homepage for being accessible or straightforward, it could even be quite off putting to a new user as there is a general feeling of chaos on there and I get the impression they're cramming as much on as they can!
The left hand menu offers you the chance to be presented with offers relevant to what you're looking for. For example you can jump to Christmas Offers where you'll be presented with Christmas menu offers displayed by the restaurant name, its location and the offer itself including the price or you can jump to a particular city that you're looking to find a restaurant in - all the major cities are covered including Brighton, Coventry, Liverpool, Manchester, York, etc. By clicking on one of these you'll be shown offers relevant to just that location which saves you searching through irrelevant ones.
The central area of the homepage is dedicated to numerous lists of offers, the top list is the "Top Ten Restaurant Vouchers" along with the "Featured Restaurant Voucher" which offers a little more information. Below this is a replica of the same list but with different vouchers, I presume this is last week's offering although there is no information to tell you which is the most recent. Finally on the right hand side is a list of about ten restaurants which are found through the UK along with their relevant offers. Overall there are a whole load of offers crammed into the homepage alone!
Once you've found an offer that appeals to you you'll find that you can click on it to be taken to a new page which offers a lot more information about that offer. It'll inform you of when the voucher is valid until, when it can be used, a little about the restaurant itself and a link to the voucher as well which offer takes you directly to the brand homepage. Then you simply need to follow the instructions to get your voucher. There is also a direct search box in the top right hand corner of every page where you search for a particular restaurant to see if there are any relevant offers or vouchers.
If you're prepared to wade your way through the homepage then this site does actually have some good offers, I find it's much easier to either search for my closest city or use the search box in the top right hand corner to quicken up the process and look directly for a particular restaurant rather than search using a location. The search facility is extremely easy to use and provides accurate results, it's also incredibly quick to provide the information you're looking for. Once you're there you simply follow a link to the brand's homepage and you're practically eating your cheap meal already!
There does seem to be quite a good number of offers on the site. For the purposes of this review I've just visited it and browsed through the different bars and restaurants rather than focusing on one particular area. There are a few well known chains on here such as Café Rouge, Les Iguanas and Pizza Express but there are also some that I've not come across on other sites. These tend to be the smaller brands that have only a single restaurant perhaps, I looked at the Manchester region and noticed some quite posh places advertising on here and they had really cheap offers too!
Many of the offers do seem to have expired and although the site does claim it's updated regularly (which may well be the case) they don't seem to remove the expired offers for quite some time. I got myself really excited the other day as I thought I'd found an offer for somewhere I wanted to go, only to discover it had expired over a week ago which did annoy me a little bit! I haven't really noticed much maintenance going on with the site and I'm not sure how often it is actually updated. However I suppose this is something that I've found with a number of these sorts of sites by now.
If you want to search by Location then you'll find the site has only got about thirty five locations to choose from. The most bizarre thing is that some of the locations are massive cities like London whereas others are very small towns such as Alderley Edge. The former has probably got thousands of bars and restaurants whereas the latter probably has under one hundred so it didn't really make much sense. There's also a problem here if your location isn't listed in which case you'll be limited to browsing the restaurant names to see if they're a national chain or not or using the search facility.
I'm a bit torn with this site, it does have some good offers that I haven't come across on other sites but these tend to be location specific as they're for much smaller establishments that aren't chains as such. Quite a few of the offers have expired and I do wish they'd remove them from the site or at least make it evident that they've expired before you click on them as this does waste some time. The homepage is rather cluttered and I don't think they're designed it in the most straightforward way at all but the offers are abundant and evident so I suppose that's what you want really.
Would I recommend this site? Well yes, I can't see why it'd hurt to visit it if you're looking to save yourself some money if you're eating out. It does seem to be quite London based so if you're from that neck of the woods then I'd certainly suggest checking it out. I'm not sure how often I'll use this in the future to be honest, I do have my preferred sites which are much easier to use and probably have quite a few of the same offers as this one does really when it comes to chains. However if I'm looking to eat somewhere a little different I'll be using this site again I image. Happy (and cheap) dining!
Thanks for reading.
I came across this website a few months ago & since then it has saved me loads of money. It basically provides a wealth of vouchers giving you discounts when you dine in at the various venues.
You have the option to pick the city of your choice & then restaurants with vouchers in the particular area will be displayed. I've got to say though at the moment, only the major cities across the UK are listed but I think as the site continues to grow so will this list.
Once you scroll through the restaurants, you are given a summary of the special offer available and then can choose to print out the relevent voucher to take with you & show at the relevent restaurant.
There are some fabulous deals on offer, recently I've had a starter, main & drink at Pizza Express for £10 and also 50% off the total bill at La Tasca which are both pretty impressive savings.
If you're planning on going out for a meal, make sure you check this site beforehand to see if there are any special deals in you area. With the current credit crunch, this site is essential and will save you loads!
