I would say that I have a list of around only 20 web sites that I actually visit consistently and Rotten Tomatoes is one of them.
Now I am the type that goes to the cinema to watch and enjoy a film. I am not too bothered about some film critic taking it to pieces, analysing it methodically and then putting it together again before a final verdict. If I enjoy a film I enjoy it - and that's it.
I do look forward to new films coming out and I do enjoy reading a little bit about them before watching them. I don't however like to know the full story either.
I also like to know if a film is going to be half-decent - after all I don't have time or maybe the money to go watch them all.
This is what I like about Rotten Tomatoes - plenty of opinions, not just one. Rotten Tomatoes take reviews from a large selection of sources, mostly American based newspaper or net write-ups. Normally this can be up to around 100 reviews.
From this an average is created and the film either receives a red tomato (good) or a green rotten tomato (pretty much speaks for itself).
The site not only rates current movies but you can look at current video releases or search for the film in the large database.
You can also look at cast ratings from the scores of there previous films - for instance Angelina Jolie = rotten!
Finally the site has a multimedia section where you can watch film trailers or get shots from the film.
