Disadvantages: charges for luggage, charges for using your debit/credit card
I have been a huge fan of Ryanair since discovering them in 2008 when booking a cheap city break to Paris. I have received a few bargain airfares since then, once getting a return ticket to Paris for £6 and a return ticket to Dublin for £4. I must admit, I haven't had fares quit that low for a while but they still over great value for money.
There are a few things worth noting about Ryanair if you are looking to use them to save money. One, is that they charge you to take hold luggage. So if you are planning to go away for more than a few days, this can be pricey. For a 2 or 3 night trip, however, you can get away with using a small hand luggage case if you pack carefully.
Another point worth noting is that there is often a charge for using your card to pay for your flights. I think this is about £20 on top of your airfare. I think this fee is waivered if you have one the Ryanair cards, so if you fly regularly it might be worthwhile getting one of those.
Ryanair are very much a no-frills airline, so if you like to feel pampered, enjoy complimentary food and drink on board and on board entertainment then this is not the airline for you. Generally, the flight times are short and sweet so you don't really have time to notice that the airline is lacking in these areas.
Summary: good for bargain holidays
