I have been a user of www.saynoto0870.co.uk for a number of years now. I would love to work out how much it has saved me and my business, but I would guess it runs into hundreds of pounds.

So how does it work. Well for those who are unaware (and there can't be many) 0844,0845,0870,0871 and several other prefixes each give the owner a cut of the call cost. So for example if you phone an 0871 number to speak to Mr Parrot at Tree Top Muse, you could be charged 10p a minute. In return he pays the provider of the 0871 number and keeps a nice cut for himself, so he can buy more bird seed, I guess!!

A number of companies who have call centres (as well as many others) have expensive numbers to ring. This is often used to subsidise the costs of staff wages. If a member of staff is continually taking calls for an hour, imagine the nice little earner they make.

The way that saynoto0870 works is that individuals add numbers they have been given to a database. So for example if you had cause to speak to a manager and ripmeoff hotels Ltd and he gave you his number, you would add it onto the database. Next time somebody wanted to call ripmeoff, they would type that name in and get the normal rate number. Alternatively you can search with the phone number and see if it is listed with another number.

My Experience

I have lost count at the number of times I have used this site. It is in my favourites and the first site I consult prior to phoning a 'premium' rate number. Most major companies I have found are listed as well as hundreds of others. If you look up wibblywobbly bank for instance you will probably find about 50 plus entries, anything from your local branch to the Head Cleaners Office in Brighton (well I might be exaggerating here but you get the idea).

The site also has a forum with a lot of chat about premium numbers. I actually bought one myself and give it out to all companies, and other commercial interests. In the meantime I give my other geographical number to friends and family. They are basically the same number!!!

I cannot recommend this site highly enough!!
