Advantages: Accessable by a range of different media, thorough directory, efficient high-standard service.
Disadvantages: Only avaiable to Vodafone users on a mobile phone.
Scoot.co.uk is a result of the Freepages Group PLC (the company that ran 0800 192 192) and an alliance with Vodafone in 1996. It is basically an online version of the Yellow Pages, you can search for different business by either name, type or location. It also has a people search and a cinema search facility. Scoot isn't just an online service but a free service avaiable from land-lines and by dialing '333' from a Vodafone handset. It is very useful if you are a Vodafone customer, not only is it free but they also send the details of the business to your handset in the form of a text message, all for free. Scoot is well known for its marketing campaign with it's purple headed man. It has achieved huge growth over the past couple of years, with services expanding to Holland and Belgium. More recently, scoot has now been made avialable through digital TV too, so it's quickly become a household name in business finding and I would imagine is having a negative effect on the demand for the classic Yellow Pages. You can register your business with scoot for free, if a business of your own type hasn't already been listed in your area. You can also choose to pay £200 and receive a one-page website, a description and a map on your listing on their site. If you compare that to the cost at Yellow Pages, it's very cheap advertising. But for most of us, scoot is a handy business directory. It cover's the whole of the UK and beyond and is becoming very accessable by us all. With so many ways to access their database, through digital TV, the internet, mobile phones and by landline phones, there service can only move from strength to strength. An excellent service, well worth using as an alternative to the Yellow Pages.
