Advantages: Increases information on work unit being processed
Disadvantages: none
If you are one of the 2 000 000 or so PC users currently engaged in assisting Berkey University in the search for evidence of extra-terrestrial life in the universe then, if you haven't already heard about it, Setispy is a very useful and interesting addition to the SETI@home client. You can find Setispy at http://pages.tca.net/roelof/setispy What is Setispy? Roelof Engelbrecht, Setspy's author, describes it as a freeware SETI@home client watcher. Setispy offers a number of utilities to make the process of using SETI@home more interesting, for example:- 1.0 Progress.Abreakdown of SETI@home's performance at carryingout the current unit. It estimates the likely finish time among other things. 2.0 Performance. It gives a breakdown of your machines performance at processing a unit. i.e. processing raqte, speed and efficiency. 3.0 Results. This utility tells you how "interesting" a unit is in terms of being in the right frequency neighbourhood. Results also keeps a record of the units you have processed. 4.0 Work unit. This area tells you about where your unit is in the sky and if you are online gives you access to astronomical information about the neighbourhood. It also has a hot link to the Arecibo Radio Observatory website. 5.0 User stats. Tell how you stand in the project giving things like your rank and there is a hotlink to your stats at the SETI@home web site. There are a number of other facilities but these are mainly to do with setup and other relevant statistics. To repeat myself, if you are enjoying taking part in SETI@home (http://setiathome.berkley.edu/) project and haven't heard of Setispy you really ought to visit the site and download this little jem of a program
