Shazam is a wondeful innovation & I still can't figure out how it works after all this time. It is basically a service that will recognise any song playing in the background & let you know who the artist is and what the title of the song is. If you hear a song when out & about and really want to know what it is, you can ring a short number from your mobile and then just by holding your phone towards the music for around 10 seconds will allow the system to send you a text to let you know what the song & artits was. Shazam is great! Basically, its a music recognition device that you can use to identify tunes you hear playing but are unsure what they are. There are two ways to get the 'Shazam Experience' - there is a number you dial, which is 2580 and a voice tells you to hold your phone towards the music, it will then 'listen' for 15 seconds and text you the name of the song. I used to use this 'back in the day' but to be honest, I think it is rather expensive (around 12p for the call, and 50p for each text you use).
