Advantages: makes me money
Disadvantages: none
I joined slice the pie a few months ago after hearing about it from a friend.
slice the pie is a music site that allows new bands to play there music on there, to submitt your music to them all you need to do is make 3 songs then submit them, it doesnt cost you anything and if your songs are good enough you could end up with £15.000 to record your song profesionally and get it in the charts.
After you have submitted your music to them it will appear in the next scout room, this is where the interesting bit begins for me, once your songs are in the scout room, members of the site like me will listen to the songs anonomously, they wont be told who you are , the name of your song or the music type untill they have rated it. the scouts have to listen to the first 60 seconds of your song before they can rate it, to rate it you have a bar from one to ten, one being rubbish and ten being fantastic, once rated they have to leave a meaningfull comment of at least two lines back to you saying what they liked and didnt like about the song.
After this if you get enough good rates you are moved to the area where people can vote for you to get a record contract where you will get the £15,000 if you come first and usually the runers up who make it into the top 6 will be aproached by record labels so if you have musical talent then this is a good way of getting your voice heard and face known.
If like me you have the musical talent of a cat being strangled you can still join this site but as a talent scout, it is free to join and you can cancel at any time you want.
once you have joined which is realy easy to do just the usual details like name, d.o.b and email adress you can begin listening to music but the best part about this is that for every song you listen to and rate in the scout room you can earn money.
The money you earn varies as you have a scout star rating that has 5 stars, you begin with one star but as you get better at getting the rating of a song in with the average of other raters and begin leaving longer feed back your stars start to go up but beware dont get lazy just beacuse your stars have gone up as they can go back down again too.
There is usually only one scout room open at a time but there are plenty of songs as a scout room doesnt open untill there are over 1000 songs in there and the different scout rooms award different amounts of money for your ratings.
The lowest paid scout rooms pay 3p per rating for a 1 star,5 p per rating for a 2 star up to 12 p per rating for a 5 star talent scout and the most expensive i have seen payed 25p for a 5 star scout.
If like me you enjoy listening to music this is a great site as you get to hear songs before they make it into the charts, earn money at the same time and if you are realy into music you can even help fund the bands to get them into the charts.
The money you earn from the scout rooms can be used to finance a band you are keen on and then you own a share in this band and will recieve some of there profts if they make it big but if like me you dont like to gamble with your money you can have it as cash once you reach £5 which isnt long as you earn roughly £1 an hour in the scout room listening to music. This is only available by paypal but if you dont have a pay pal account it is easy to set one up, just go to pay pal, register by adding your name, adress, d.o.b and email and you are ready to go, to recieve a payment just go to the my slice section and select withdraw paypal and enter your email adress, it will be in your paypal account within 4 days.
You can then spend this on line or have the cash transfered to your bank account.
This is a great site that i make around £20 a week on there for a few hours relaxing and listening to music.
Summary: a great way to earn extra cash

- 19/06/08 This sounds really good - like you say if you like listening to music it's a good way to do it for free and you could always say you helped a band make it if you voted for them!! x |
