“ A fantasy aports site. Pick fantasy teams for a variety of different sports. „
Smallworld.com is a web site which allows you to play interactive sports management games, with your scores based on real life results in those sports. The sports are mainly American and of little interest to us in the UK, who know that Football involves a round ball and you kick it, rather than throw it with your hands. But that is the Yanks for you, Football, Ahh yes you pick the ball up and throw it. Enough of the sidetracking. Smallworld's English fantasy football is excellent, you start with £50 million and have to buy your team. Transfers can be made each week with any spare cash you have, you get money back for selling players and of course have to pay for the new players. Players then score points for goals, assists, tackles and passing accuracy. Nothing different there then. But where the site and game is clever is that the value of players change depending on the market. I.e if everybody is buying Michael Owen then his value will go up, similarly if Owen does not score and looks like a muppet and managers start to sell him his value goes down. This is where the game is addictive as you may buy a player for a small sum and then be able to sell latter at a much higher price. If you judge it right i.e just as a player loses form, then you will have made money and be able to afford the better more expensive players and thus probably score more points for your team. You can set up scouts to track various players and analyse a wealth of statistics in far more depth than any fantasy game I have played before. In fact it is a footie fans paradise and is FREE to play and you are not engulfed with huge quantities of junk mail when you have registered. This game adds a huge extra dimension to what has become quite a tired formula in the national newspapers. Best of all it costs nothing and there are good prizes to be won monthly and at the end of the season. Top prize is a trip to see the inter continental cup in Japan. There is another footie game on the site, tip-em, much simpler, you just predict the outcome of the weekends premiership football matches, the person with the most correct tips at the end of the season wins a prize. The same as above. This is an excellent site, well designed with innovative sports games, if you are a sports fan, then it is well worth checking out.
update Starting this weekend smallworld will be doing fantasy formula 1, so hurry up and enter a team (4/3/2001) ............................................ Smallworld.com is an America based site that contains fantasy games such as baseball, basketball, American football, golf etc. What caught my eye was a fantasy game called football English premier; this is to be the best fantasy football game I have ever come across. The game it’s self starts you off with a maximum spending limit to buy eleven players, during the season if any of your players value increase you can sell him at that new price and you will pocket the profit. After buying your initial team you cannot go over the spending maximum limit but when the season starts and you start buying and selling players the money you have is what you have in the bank. UPDATE I have entered the English fantasy football; tip em’s and three for all (American football) and this site will never be beaten in my eyes
This is without doubt the best free fantasy sports site that I have found on the web. It offers fantasy leagues in many sports including Premier League football, Brazilian football, Major League Baseball, Golf, American Football, Basketball and even Politics!!! The detail is brilliant as players prices change throughout the season as your fellow managers buy or sell particular players. For all of the sports available the way that players score points is very intricate and yet realistic to their performances in the field. For the football league players score points using the Carling Opta index which form the official statistics of both Sky Sports and the Premier League itself. I initially found the site from a link on msnbc .com and began playing the baseball league, and when a few months later I found that a football league was starting I thought that I would bring it to dooyoo's attention and hence I nominated it as a category here. Perhaps a dooyoo members league could be set up.
I have found what I think to be the best fantasy football competition around. The competition is run by smallworld.com and gives you the most realistic opportunity of being a manager. The main advantage to this league is that you get to benefit from the increase (or decrase) in players value. For example if you buy a player at £1m and he goes up to £5m you can sell him for that price and then use your earnings to buy a new player. The players value is determined by his popularity, for example if a player performs really well one week his demand by managers will go up, therefore so will his price, if he performs badly, he will be sold by managers and his price will go down. It's a bit like mixing fantasy fooball with the stock market. You can have any number of players from any team, but you are limited to 4 transfers each week. There are good prises to be one and you can either set up your own league to compete against friends or join one that they allocate you too. This is a brilliant site and I reccommend you all to play. www.smallworld.com is the web address
