Advantages: Quick and easy online service
Disadvantages: Its frameset layout means bookmarking hotels is a bit of a pain
Superbreak are a travel company that provide UK accommodation. They have numerous brochures which you can use to book via a travel agent, but I just used their website, www.superbreak.com, to book a hotel in Norfolk. The website booking process begins with a map of England, and once you've clicked on the county you want to visit, you'll get a list of towns and their hotels. By clicking on the hotel you then get to see a photo, read about the facilities, learn how far the hotel is from tube and rail stations, and see how much they charge. The best bit is the instant availability check - you enter the type of room you want and the date(s) you want to stay there, and the website tells you if the hotel can accommodate you. (As I'd spent my lunch break in a travel agents whilst they rang round booked-up hotels, this made me very happy.) The search also automatically performs any savings (e.g. 10% off in August, Sunday nights half-price, etc.) so the price will be totally accurate. If you want to look for a room in other hotels, the system saves the details you've entered so you don't have to re-enter them each time you do an availability check. I received proof of payment through the post two days later, but if you don't get the invoice before you leave, a print-out of the confirmation webpage apparently suffices.
