Advantages: Loads of recipes, easy to follow with perfect results. easy to navigate website.
Disadvantages: Some recipes require payed membership access
Tarla Dalal is India's number one cookery author and with her popularity she is bound to have a website. The website was set up by her son Sanjay Dalal and its like an online datebase of thousands of Tarla Dalal's recipes she has created over 45 years. Its an excellent source to get so many Indian recipes and some with a certain twist. All the recipes and techniques are explained so well you can't possible go wrong, but sometimes there is that odd ingredient that even some local Indian shops don't have, but have managed to find them online, so there is really no worries there either.
The design of the website is very basic and easy to use, what more do you want really? You can search for recipes by any means possible whether it be a certain dish or by ingredients, there is even a search box at the top to find things quickly and at the bottom there are sections of different types of recipes. You can even contribute your own recipes and email Tarla about recipes and recieve answers. She also has her selection of cookery book details advertised in the cooking books section. There are links to her blog covering certain events and recipes. As you find out about the ingredients just by clicking on them it also leads you conversion tables to enable you get the measurements right.
Every month I think she showcases some recipes as you access the website as there is something new every couple of weeks. Some recipes on the website are free but others require you to pay membership to access the other half of the recipe. There is no reason to do this as its cheaper to just purchase a book especially if it contains the type of recipes you want to cook such as certain health series books covering diabetes, healthy heart, etc.
Overall this is a website I keep in my bookmarks to refer to for Indian, vegetarian recipes. Why? Well the recipes I tried out have all worked perfectly. I made an egg-less cake for my birthday the other week because due to religious reason we have to remain vegetarian for a month and I was surprised it turned out good. The normal vanilla sponge was yummy but a bit rich for my liking. The chocolate version was just like a normal cake with egg, so yummy infact it was demolished within 15 mins.
Summary: Indian cookery website
