I very rarely buy a newspaper . The reasoning behind this is that, despite my good intentions, once I buy one I never seem to have the time to sit down, spread it out on the table and have a good read . Plus, it just ends up going into the bin after a couple of days .

Recently though, I have started reading the news online , and after trying a few different news and newspaper websites, I've settled on the Telegraph, as it's one of the papers I most enjoy reading .

The site is actually very well designed I think . Typing in www.telegraph.co.uk takes you right to the top page, where, beneath the Telegraph logo, you'll see the main news stories of the day laid out for you to look at , as headlines with a short description beneath. Clicking on the headlines then brings up the full story .

If, however, you know exactly which section of news you want to look at, then along the top of the page, right below the logo, is a navigation bar that leads you to the following categories : Home, News , Sport, Finance, Comment, Travel, Lifestyle, Culture, Fashion, A - Z, Jobs, Dating, Puzzles
and offers. Clicking on any of these categories brings up a variety of sub categories, allowing you to get straight to the issues that interest you .

For example, lets say you click on 'News' - you'll then be given a choice of Uk News, World News, Politics, Science among others .

Articles are clearly written using simple language , and key points in articles are sometimes hyperlinked so you can get a more detailed explanation of a particular term - something I find useful when reading the science articles (I'm not much of a scientist myself, but since starting dating a physics graduate, I've started to take an interest in certain aspects) . Many articles also have relevant links displayed next to them for related articles, which is useful if the article is about something you find particularly interesting and would like further detail on, or if the article is the latest in a long running series of articles on a particular story.

The balance of stories is nice too - there's a lot of humour in some of them , in fact, the weird news section is one of my favourites on the site . There's a good balance between 'news' stories, and human interest articles, and the articles do, for the most part seem to be well researched and pretty accurate. The paper does every so often have a favourite topic, right now it seems it's riding the MP's expenses thing into the ground, but then so are many other papers at the moment .

The site does have some advertising, but I have found this to largely blend into the background, and of course, any newspaper requires advertising to help fund it.

As well as the various news sections, I have used the job section of the site, and found a few interesting vacancies worth applying for . Overall though, the job section is not large, but it's a good extra site to look at for jobs as some of the posts on offer I had not seen on offer on the big job sites .

Overall, I really like the Telegraph website - it's nicely and simply laid out, with interesting article content, and a balance between serious news and some light hearted fluff. There is always something interesting to read, and it's much more convenient than actually buying a newspaper - I can read it in little snippets any time I like, and of course, it's free, and doesn't use up paper .
