Advantages: Great website

Disadvantages: Tube closures!

Any traveller in London will need to use the services of TFL. They are responsible for transport services in London and of issuing oyster cards to travellers.

Generally the transport services in London run smoothly, at least for a city this size. During weekdays there are few delays and any problems are usually not their fault.

The problems start when travelling on the weekend and TFL are in the middle of continuous line upgrades and track repairs, apparently in time for the 2012 Olympics. What this means is that large sections of London are cut off from the fast tube network. The replacement bus services are unsufficient and fail to cope with the amount of people travelling around.

However, TFL do provide some good services and the fully-linked in rail network to the Oyster card system is brilliant. Not having to worry about tickets and being able to walk straight through is super convenient.

The TFL website is also very useful and provides very detailed, customizable routes for travelling. The website has tons of information and is easy to use. The Oyster card management is also good and allows you to do many things online including transferring balances, if you ever end up with more than one Oyster.

The website also has a counterpart mobile site which is obviously much faster to load and use while out and about. This is indespensible once you get used to it and provides easy to read instructions for the fastest route. Unfortunately it's not very customizable but considering the usability is great, it's a small price to pay.

Summary: Good service and little to complain about
