Advantages: Easy and interesting surveys to do, not time consuming, fast receipt of the vouchers
Disadvantages: Hardly any surveys lately, prize catalogue has dwindled
If you're on DooYoo, then I assume you're going to be interested in ways to make a little extra cash on-line. One site I tried is called "That's What I Think" (www.thats-what-i-think.co.uk) and is a survey site that concentrates its questionnaires on current television shows, radio programs, music and movies.
As a quick overview of the site, you can plug into the URL above, and get their basic blurb. There's a link there to help you sign up, and they'll ask you the basic questions like your name, email, home address, make a password and the like. As usual, they'll send a confirmation email with your details and after you click on the link there, fill out their profile questions, and you're a member. Once you've joined, you'll get your first 500 points and join their list of participants.
All the surveys I've gotten have had to do with newly or soon-to-be released movies. They've all been very easy to answer, and were fun to do. Each one only took a maximum of about 10 minutes to do, so the effort here is certainly minimal, and if you like the subject matter, then you won't mind answering these questions. That's alright then.
Answering a survey will give you 400-500 points each, with occasional double-point surveys of 800-1000 points (and I do mean occasional). To answer a survey, all you have to do is wait for an email to come, click on the link provided there and answer the questions they ask. I've never had a survey that I couldn't complete totally, so I don't know if they give partial points for only completing part of a survey. They have had, however, time-based surveys which they only allow the first X number of people to click on their link to answer, so it's always wise to check your email early and often to make sure you get in on all the surveys they send. Also, they say that sometimes they give out extra "thank you" points (like on your birthday, on a holiday or your anniversary of joining), just because, so that could be nice, too.
The points I refer to are, of course, the main reason why I joined this site - because you can save them up for prizes. We all love something for what is essentially nothing, and since they allow people from all over the world to join, there's no reason why you shouldn't. What's more, you can refer up to five friends to this site and get bonus points equaling 20% of the points from the surveys they answer (so if they answer a 500 point survey, you'll get 10 points added to your credits). But bonus points will only begin 30 days after your friend joins, and will only continue for one year from their joining. You don't get bonus points for their joining, unfortunately.
All this sounds fine, and it is a very good idea, but lately, I've been a bit disappointed by this site.
First of all, I've only received seven surveys during the year since becoming a member, and one of them was only open for a very short time and I missed that window. Mind you, getting only one survey every other month means putting hardly any time into the site, and this can be considered a good thing. However, it also means that you'll not earn very much. This could be because I listed my residence outside the UK, but from my UK friends, I haven't heard that they got a whole lot more surveys. No surveys means no points which means no prizes, so this is certainly NOT a good thing. Moreover, I've never gotten any extra "thank you" points, so I can't say that's much of a draw to this site either.
I should mention that when you cash in your points, they say it will take up to 72 hours to get confirmation, but when I cashed in, the confirmation with my voucher appeared only minutes later - that's amazingly fast, if you ask me, and probably one of the best parts about this site! The question is weather it is worth it to cash in.
The reason I ask this is because I've also noticed that the prize catalogue has changed a good deal since I joined. At first, all I could do was donate my points to UNICEF (at a rate of 1500 points equaling a £5 donation), or get a £10 Amazon.co.uk vouchers (costing 2500 points). Soon afterwards, they added a £20 Amazon.co.uk voucher which cost 4000 points (which seemed worth waiting for). Then they added vouchers for Firebox.com (which has some pretty funky products) in the same amounts as the Amazon ones. Now they have included a £5 payment into your PayPal account which will cost you 1500 points. All this seems very good, doesn't it? Unfortunately, a couple of months ago I noticed that they dropped the £10 Amazon voucher option. Then the other day I saw they dropped the £20 Amazon voucher as well. That means that my primary reason to answer surveys on this site is now gone (because I don't have PayPal and shipping costs on Firebox are outrageously high, even within the UK). All this happened when I was only 600 points away from getting that £20 Amazon voucher!
This was very frustrating for me, and while I could be a generous soul and donate to UNICEF, I have other charities I prefer to give my money to (which I do every month). I've invited as many people as I can to this site since I joined, and I know that two of them did join, but I haven't seen even one bonus point from their surveys come my way. That means either my friends didn't really join or this site lied to me about the bonus points, or these people aren't getting any surveys - the latter of which seems most likely.
This is why I really cannot recommend this site. Yes, it might be a nice way to donate to UNICEF, but if that's not your charity of choice, then why bother? The other prizes are dwindling away, and with Firebox's huge shipping charges (unless you buy lots of things, which will cost you far more than your measly £10 or £20 voucher), it just doesn't seem worth it to join anymore. Even if you decide to go for the £5 to your PayPal account, I can't see you earning all that much. While I will be happy to answer any surveys they send me in the future, I'm not going to be searching my inbox for their emails either. I can only give this site a sad two stars, and THAT'S what I really do think!
Thanks for reading!
